Default ds 650 electrical issue

I hava a 2000 ds650. Sometimes it will start sometimes it wont. When it does start it runs great for about 10 seconds then it dies just like you hit the kill switch. I can even hold the throttle about 4000 rpm and it just dies. Also it will backfire sometimes only when trying to start it makes me think im losing spark and then getting spark. Also ever since it was new sometimes when you would start the bike it would blow the intake boot off the carb or intake and die but it would only do it if you didnt hold the start button long enough. Also now when it wont start it sounds like something is broke (metal to metal thrashing sound) thinking its the starter against the flywheel not sure. I know its a lot to cover but i need help and from reading other threads i think i came to the right place

Welcome to the forum. Do a search on the fuel tank vent hose. Gets in a bind or pinched and prohibits fuel from reaching the carb. Start there then we'll visit the backfiring issue if it doesn't go away.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I checked the vent I even took the gas cap off. When it dies its sudden its not like I'm running out of gas. I cleaned the Carb it was pretty bad from sitting. I bought it new and only on its 2nd set of tires. Maybe 200 hrs on bike.

Pull off the air filter and spray some starting fluid in the intake. If it starts every time you try this then you have a fuel delivery issue. If it does not start with starting fluid then you have an ignition issue.

Good idea I'll try the starting fluid. Small amount of coarse.

Ok guys its definatly an electrical issue. I tried to start it up and it fired one time and that was all but it didn't start. I pulled the plugs to check for spark and it will only spark one time when you first hit the start button.I found a ground wire from the main frame to the crankcase that had been rubbed a little but not broken and not touching anything now but still only sparks one time then nothing.
