I'm not sure what the problem is, but I would caution you that a DS650 is way too much power for a 12 year old. That's a lot of bike. BE CAREFUL!

Please don,t let your 12 year old ride that large machine. Start him off on a smaller one.

Hope you get it fixed for yourself to ride.

I'd suspect 1-2 shift fork. Last year mine wouldn't shift into anything, and I thought it might have been the switch but tore into it and it was the shift drum. But since your's is going into 1st, I'd think the shift fork is the cause.

My 7yr old can damn near shift/ride my DS. Does that mean I should I let him ride it??? There are a lot better options our there for a 12yr old than a big fat DS. Why not a 450 class sport machine? If your fine with a 500lb quad coming down on top of your 12yr old then go for it. Just dont expect a pretty outcome. There is no stopping stupid....

Would be MUCH cheaper to do them yourself. Really not that hard of a task. And we are here to walk you through it if you don't have the manual.
