Because the speed limit on the interstate is 80 mph where I live. Plus, how long you think an engine is going to last if its being run with the pedal to the metal, absolutely maxed out, all it will do, just to keep up with traffic for hour after hour, all day long, everyday.

not sure what your point is there who said every vehicle should be driven at max speed everyday?

but- to answer your question- your motor will hold up just fine. Other mechanical parts will fail before a properly maintained motor will- like wheel bearings, cv joints and tires.... not to mention your gas milage.

1000cc rotax- whoa! so long to the ac 1000- can't wait to see the numbers for the 1000cc rotax in the outlander!
If AC, or Suzuki wanted to they would just drop there 1056cc 4 stroke twin thats 125-hp in base trim and jumps to 177-hp @ 121-ft/lbs torque with an intercooler turbo. Its been out for a long time now.

They just chose not to for obvious law suit reasons. 5 psi balloon tires are just are not meant to handle 80 MPH no matter how good there suspension is, its just a law of physics.

2009 Arctic Cat Z1 Turbo review

Even Can Am kept it mellow, 82hp out of a 1000cc is pretty tame vs there 1000cc Ski-Doo and PWC. Polaris has a 750cc 4 stroke twin that makes 85hp without tubo and 145hp with turbo.

Yamaha has a 650cc 4 stroke twin that makes 65hp without turbo, and thats there entry level sled.

that is a sweet motor- but I agree, an 800 lb machine with 4 27" mud tires and a 5' wheel base is not meant to hit those kinds of speeds.
I'm honestly surprised to see a 1000cc (9?? cc) in an atv- a stock 800 rotax can do anything a stock 1000 rotax will do in an atv- there's only so fast you can pull a wheelie before your tires break traction. Kinda overkill for 99% of the atver's who ride. Not that I wouldn't like to ride it, but it can't be very good on gas compared to other big bore atv's.
I wonder if the cv shafts were upgraded to compensate for the extra hp / tq

976ccs isn't 1000 Can Am. Likewise Arctic Cat's 1000 is 951ccs. It's deceptive marketing and I hate that all the ATV companies engage in it. We're not talking about rounding up to the nearest 5cc here. It's blatantly dishonest.

That said the new Can-Am models look nice. I do wish they'd do an override of some sort of the visco-lok. It would be nice to be able to keep the front locked up when you want it to.

I agree with you here- why not just call the outty 650 a 700? Although AC rounding up to 1000 because they went 1cc over 950 is a lot more sneaky then can-am rounding up to 1000 with their 976. I can understand can-am calling it a 1000 a little better then AC's bs - That 1cc over was clearly a deceptive tequnique just be the first to get a "1000" atv on the market. They were clever- they named it the "Arctic Cat 1000" - you can name it anything you want- it's not a 1000cc motor- That extra 50cc is what... another 1" of piston diameter? - that's a big difference in my mind.

It's blatantly dishonest
Its been going on for awhile. Honda was bad for it.

500 Foreman is a 475cc
350 Rancher is a 329cc
250 Recon is a 229cc
450 Foreman is a 433cc

Also
Polaris 400 2 stroke is a 378cc
Sportsman 800 is a 760cc
Outlaw/KTM 525 is a 510cc
400 KQ/Eiger is a 376cc (AC called it a 375 4X4 Automatic)
450 Grizzly/Wolverine is a 421cc

It can go the other way.

400 Sportsman H.O is a 455cc

I like the dead on method.

660 Grizzly is a 660cc
TRX 420 Rancher is a 420cc
325/425 Polaris Xpedition are a 325cc and 425cc
366 Arctic Cat is a 366cc.

Wow, how'd I miss that? An opportunity to tweak Beergut missed... Oh, the agony... By 2112 there should be a warp drive or something....
