interminttent fuel guage reading 08 Outlander 800 ?
#1
The fuel guage reading comes and goes, sometimes works sometimes not. Need to know where to start? I ve checked and cleaned the fuse panel fuses, relays, diodes on the front and back of quad. Checked battery connections. Looks like to get the fuel pump and sending unit for the fuel guage will be quite a chore. Pump is on the bottom of tank and tank has to be taken off? Is that right??? Thanks Perry

this is a known issue- smae exact thing happened to me- I had the pump on my 08 800 outty replaced under warranty- otherwise was about $375.
you need a new fuel pump unfortunately. it's a one piece unit in the tank. You may have some luck dealing directly with can-am instead of a dealer. can-am may help you out on the cost of the part, and just have you pay the 2 hours of labor to swap it out. The tank does have to be removed. sorry for the bad news
start by calling can-am customer service. just go to the can-am site and find the right contact.

Not that its funny because you had to spend money, but its funny because BRP just don't seem to learn on these fuel gauge/pump problems. They have been making the same mistakes with fuel problems since the 90's on thier Jet Skis. I bet there are thousands of Skis out there right now made by BRP that have problems with poor quality materials in the fuel system.
I know I had to replace a sending unit float in my GTX a while back cause mine just sunk and quite reading I had any fuel in the tank....
Glad you got your bike going, just be glad it wasn't a Prairie and you had to buy the fuel pump.... OEM is like $500.

Sorry to post twice, but if this is a common problem, has anyone looked into what is causing it? I mean I know on the Skis I know that the problem usually stems from either the float going bad and sinking or there is a small fuse built into the sending unit that can be removed and resoldered to fix the problem. Wonder if these units are having similar problems like the skis???
Would definately save U BRP folks some money on new sending units if that is the only problems. Especially since warrenties do eventually go out.
