The Bomb shop manual spec is .004" - .006" for both intake and exhaust. I have been happy with this setting on my DS for over 100 hours of desert (hot) riding.

Hope this helps.

I just installed Team Pami sport cams and their gaps were twice what the stock gaps are.
The cams ride right on top of the valves and the gap adjustments are made by changing out the round shim on top of the valve bucket. It sounds complicated but it is pretty simple.
You should not have to adjust the gap at all until the manual calls out to mic. the shims. or the shims wear out.
I talked to my local BMW dealer about maintenance problems with the BMW F-650(same motor) and he said that they have been selling these bikes since 1997 and they have not had ANY problems at all.
HAPPY TRAILS!

Guys,
I have a post titled "Is my dealer lazy?"
I ask because yesterday I took my DS to have it's 10 hour checkup done. They say there is no need to adjust the valves. I will probably call today & insist it's gets done but I have a feeling they might just lie about doing it.I'd like to learn to just do that kind of thing myself.
Anyway, how hard is it to do?
Do any of you guys have the pages of the shop manual scanned that you could send me?
Thanks for your help.

Never mind about the scanned pages guys. I went and ordered a service manual. My Polaris dealer was the same way. Great price, but lousy service. I bought a service manual for my old Scrambler too. I like doing things myself anyway.
