I have a 2000 scrambler 500 4x4. I want to get a ds650. I rode a new one and really liked it. My quad is at the dealer getting a new trans. case. They have a 2000 ds650 someone traded for a sportsman. It is clean but the dealer was telling me the guy had nothing but problems with it. He is a polaris dealer and I don't believe all he said. Is there any common problems with the 650? He said if I give him my quad and 750.00 I can have the 650. Or should I spend alot more money and get a new one? Any help would be appreciated.

stevescrambler, go with the saying "High Performance, High Maintenance". The person who traded it in may not have been ready to deal with problems someone else may think of as minor. We have Traxter's so I cannot speak for DS650 owners but if you look back about 9-12 months in this forum, add up all the problems others have had with the DS650, then ask the dealer to look at or fix before buying, you may be getting a good deal. On the other hand, if you don't know about or want to deal with the problems you are reading about, then better pass it up.

Did he say what sort of problems he was having? Most of the problems I hear about are minor[such as the chain roller,$6 part] and I could not see an owner getting rid of it for that. Often times, a new rider will decide they don't like something and claim it has problems rather than admitt that they just chose the wrong quad for them.
Aside from cleaning the chain, I don't see any more maintainance needed on a DS than on any other quad, hi-performance or utility.

I have a 2000 ds and the only thing that went out was my cooling fan. that was my fault for pressure washing up by my fan.knutz is probly right,or the guy did not set his suspention right (witch i think makes a world of diffrence)and did not like it! the ds are great bikes it not like the motor was just made. This motor has proven it self over and over again!!

Well I sure didn't get many responses. I read all the postings hear and decided they must be a pretty good machine. So, I traded the scrambler in on the DS650. I sure hope it lives up to it's reputation.

I have a 2000 DS and at first I was not happy with it. After 20 hours on the motor WITH the proper care the motor blew and I was 2 months out of warranty. Well Bombardier came through for me..........some....they paid for half the parts to fix the blown motor. I was upset that Bombardier did'nt help me more and did'nt take much interest in WHY it blew but it is fixed $3,000 later. My experience with Bombardier was less than pleasurable IE: customer service, but it is a quality bike. Make sure the "fixes" are done on it. Your local Bombardier dealer can check on that for you. I now have 20 hours on the new motor and LOVE this bike. With a few mods it will "fly".

Congratulations! If you like yours half as much as I like mine, you'll be satisfied. Keep an eye on these forums and you'll be on top of any problems you could ever encounter. Thanks to the forums, I avoided overheating my engine when my cooling fan went out. That, and I even knew that the cooling fans were prone to this. Interesting thing though, my Chain Roller is still perfect.
Also, since reading these forums, I have chnaged my mind about which exhaust pipe to buy at least 4 times! I believe I've found a winner though, FINALLY! (Custom X Series 2)
