Raptor on a magazine cover? Would that be a do it your self magazine on, "How to re-attach your Raptor's Carburtator? OR How to Rebuild the Transmission," and if you buy now, they will throw in "Replacing your rear axle in 15 Easy Steps." Those things should be included in the owners manual. But like their 4 wheelers, the Yamaha owners manuals are nice to look at, but are not really much use.

Even if you have a problem with a Raptor, it can be fixed. On the other hand, the DS is still ugly and over weight -- that cannot be fixed. Other problem is that there are so few DS models sold and of those, they are mostly used on farms instead of race applications, few people really know how bad they really are. Kurtz even admits that in order to build the DS, you need a new cylinder and you need to correct the defective oiling system just for starters.

Don't you DS junkies get it, you bought something hoping it was the "thing" only to discover that Cannondale and Yamaha would cover it with sand.

Yeah, I'm sure the DS and riders that won the Baja 2000, an endurance race, came straight off the farm. (On mostly stock machines, different tires, new front shocks, extra headlights and an aftermarket muffler) Funny thing is these "so called good ol boys" spanked your precious Professional riders on highly modded Raptors. They ALL had major failures in the race. It does not matter where they were halfway thru the race either. Where were they when it was over? Ohh mid- pack was it? Thats amazing! And the only reason a Raptor could beat a DS in a shoot out is because the raptor is more user friendly for beginers and people who cannot handle that kind of power. Thus the need for the reverse option. If you think a DS is too heavy, maybe you need to start working out, learn ride w/out reverse and try to keep your mouth shut about things you know nothing about. If you think you cannot buy lighter weight aftermarket parts for a DS you are grossly un-informed. What is it that is wrong with cylinder anyway? Or the oiling system. You seem to know so much why don't you just tell us all?

Better keep grease on your DS seat up there in Alaska otherwise your nose will get stuck in the cold.

Highly modified Raptors in the Baja?? Actually, the engines were stock (to the best of my knowledge). They had shocks, a arms, exhaust, tires, and lights. What failed at the half way point (when they were hours ahead of the farm equipment) was the aftermarket parts, including a steering stem.

I suppose you could find aftermarket parts for the DS but they are few and far between. After you spend about $6000 on your DS, you may actually have a Raptor in ugly yellow trim.

By the way, I heard they are making a DS snow plow attachment for those of you stuck in Alaska. It would compliment the trailer ball attachment for the rear swing arm.

On the oil system and cylinder, ask Kuntz. He knows of the problems and will admit to them. That is why he gets his performance package from Germany.

Im not trying to get anything else started so try not to take me too seriously, but why do people from other atv forum rooms come in to another atv room and start bashing on others quads I mean come on would you like it if (for example) some one from the Bombardier room or the Suzuki room came in and started bashing on your Yamaha quads. No I dont think you would. Now I dont think this will stop any of your guys fighting, but I just had to say something. So dont take any offense to this. And im also not trying to say that Suzuki or Bombardier atvs are better than Yamahas. My $0.02
