Was that an aftermarket transmission that went out on the White Brothers Raptor, 15 miles from the end? And a funny thing is, that all those after market parts that broke- were put there because they knew the stock ones would nver make it that far. Again nobody remembers who was where halfway thru the race. They get a trophy or reward for that? In the end is exactly where they were. the end.
The performance kit you are reffering to is from a company that has been building big bore kits for the bmw motorcycle that uses the same motor. Nothing is wrong with the stock cylinder. IF I need a plow for my ds you may wan to consider getting training wheels for your oversized blaster.

I think the Banshee Boy has missed the point. We are using this particular forum to have some fun with each other's atv products. No harm intended -- just some fun. I really don't care about teh DS, Raptor or any other atv specifically. It is just some bench racing about who can go faster.

I guess someone who has not been part of our DS Raptor hits would see our posts as a problem but it is just simple fun.

Sorry that was low. Calling your ride a oversized Blaster was uncalled for. By buying a Raptor it is obvious that you are new the sport, or at least high perfomance machines. I should be trying to help you. Sorry, would you like me to explain the difference between a 2 cycle and 4 cycle motor first? Or would like to jump right in to basic maintenance? But only if you think are ready. No rush little shooter.
No, Im kidding really. Pushing each others buttons is half fun, besides the "real" forums where actual useful information can be learned. The 1000cc, v-twin, fuel injected 4 stroke motor would be freaking amazing in a 4 wheeler chassis. 80- 100 horsepower, from the factory. Bombardier owns rotax, no reason why they couldn't build a v-twin motor for the DS chassis. Oh and another thing, Bombardier is considering using the new Rotax 4-tech series engines in the traxter and the DS. (same series is used in the new Quest) These engines are supposed to be the leaders in Power-wieght ratios. (they put out MORE power to comparable sized engines.) So we might be a seeing a new more powerful DS and Traxter in the next year or so.

1] There is no problem with the stock cylinder, we bore the stock cylinder 2MM over[plus a stroker crank] for our 703 motors. Any smart engine builder, with the resorces, would rather replace the cylinder than bore a stock one 5MM or more[that's 1/4" for those of you that don't know]. Taking 1/4" of metal out of the walls of a stock cylinder is going to allow too much flex for reliable and long lasting power.

2] The oiling system doesn't have problems, but upgrading it is just a smart thing to do, on any motor, as long as your building for power you might as well increase the reliability as well.

If Raptor boys want to attack the reliability of the DS, they better look at something other than the engine. We do have problems with things like the chain roller, but I would rather replace the chain roller than second gear.

On the Raptor, the stock cylinder is just fine for the 105.5 over bore. It has been used for years in the road race and enduro races in Europe without problems. There has never been an oiling problem.

Yamaha did change the counterbalancer gears and timing chain on the Raptor since they knew the European racers were having problems years ago.

As for the second gear issue, $173 gives you all the new gears. Simply install them when you have the engine apart for the 105.

$173.00 every other ride sounds like a good deal to me.

I've run a DS on a MX track. It does great on larger, rougher tracks. Soaks up whoops better than anything, and handles the hard landings better than should be expected from a quad with stock shocks. The wider stance helps it turn better than a Raptor as well[unless the Raptor owner spent $1500 or more to widen it up and add the shocks to go with the wider arms].

Just think about how much money a Raptor owner has to spend to get to the same HP, width[49"], and suspension travel[12"] as the DS has stock. And it will still never be as reliable.
