Quest 500
#2
I just purchased a Quest 650 XT today. I was asking the dealer about the 500, and though he didn't have one he had heard that other than the 498cc 4-tec Rotax engine, it is identical to the 650. He wasn't sure of the price difference, but expected it to be $500-750 (CDN$) less than the 650. Of note is it's use of the new 4-tec engine and not the 498cc Traxtor engine.
If you have a chance, check out the Quest. I was totally set on a Ruby until I test rode the Quest.
Cheers,

I agree on the Quest 650, I have been working my 99 Traxter and it keeps going very well, it is either idling or at full throttle mostly, unless we take it for a weekend ride throught the mountains.
I have won both atv pulls with it and now have been bitten by the Quest bug since this past Saturday when I pulled it and of course it won very easy.
So now the Traxter is for sale, has been a great buggy, no problems at all just 2 flat tires no rush to get rid of it but as mentioned got "Bitten by the Quest" power and ride etc etc..

I take it that the CVT held up well during the pull I was really impressed by the throttle response on the Quest. I think it's a real winner and will surprise alot of people. I can't believe how quiet and vibration free the 4-tec engine is - try sitting on a Kawi, Grizz or Ruby and you'll really notice the difference.

CV,
Yes the belt acted great, no problems pulling, it never did pull the engine down, it just started spinning freely after the 174 ft, as mentioned, I had a few hundred pounds in the front compartment and pulled twice, first time went 160+ ft, then after the other 8 or 10 pulls, i noticed a slick area on the track, so I went for it, and got the 174ft.
With about 850 lbs on the Traxter using the AG tires it never did spin, it just run out of power. That was 183 ft on different track and the closest non Traxter was the Grizzly at 155ft, then the Rubicon at 151 ft. By the way another Traxter with stock tires pulled 179 ft that night and yes he had alot of weight, dont know if it was more or less than I had.
I now find myself not wanting to do all the pulls, I guess Ill try to do just the ones that have some money involved as I dont want to make the Yamaha, Honda etc etc etc boys not want to come play, because it aint fair using the Traxter or Quest against them.

CanadianViking, The Quest may be really smooth, but scratch the Kawasaki Prairie 650 off your list. That is the smoothest engine I've ever seen in a quad, and it is fairly quiet too. Like your Quest, it is no comparison to the new Grizzly for vibration.

I agree the Kawi is REALLY nice, great design, sounds great, but I still think the Quest has less vibration than the Kawi maybe it's the vibration isolation, or the seat design, but I noticed a difference between the Quest and the other 3 (Kawi, Grizz (huge difference) and Ruby). I rode all four back to back and the Quest was the quietest and smoothest (IMO). If you're interested in what I noticed when testing the 4 quads head to head, I posted some information on ATV Time in the Bombardier forum under the title "Quest 650".
