End cap modification?
#1
I heard that you can modify or purchase a modified end-cap that replaces the stock muffler end cap on the DS. Is this true? Do you need to rejet or modify the air filter/air box? Can you do the modification yourself? BTW, I love my new Black DS. It was definetely the right choice for a big guy like me !!

That's another product that I'm currently prepairing to produce. Right now, I'm having my fab shop modify customers caps, but we are looking into producing them from scratch. Quality would be an absolute must, fortunatly my fab shop believes the same thing. If you want to send me yours, we can modify it, but I don't have the price for that yet. If you can wait a few days, I can have a price for you.

I know I'm sort of shooting myself in the foot on this by telling you guys how to do it your selves, but I learned about in tin the forums in the first place so here it goes.
The tubes that come out of the cap at actually much larger than the internal parts of the same tubes. They actually choke down to about 1/2" inside the canister. We cut the spark arrestor off, cut one hole large enough to encompass both of the previous tail pipes, weld a short section of pipe in it's place, and then weld the spark arrestor back on.
I'ts a pretty simple deal, so cost should be reasonable. We would make them out of stock end caps, but most people want a bolt on instead of sending theres in.

My end cap uses a tailpipe section about 10 inches long. Just as the stock tiny twin tailpipes stick out of the muffler about 3 inches my tailpipe goes inside the spark arrestor screen inside the muffler where it is baffled by many slices by a chop saw. The cross section/area of the slices far exceeds the headpipe area but breaks up the sound without restriction. The result is a free-flowing muffler that is barely louder than stock. The rest of the Bomb muffler design is really quite good, and very straightforward. An aftermarket endcap is a great idea. Welding up one of these from the stocker is okay if you're a decent welder, but it is definitely an "art project". Dyno testing to get a good result would be imperative. Mine looks and sounds good, but....?
