Nice to finally be able to get back on the boards here. Been away too long .

I'm looking into adding lights to my DS I'm trying to figure out which route is going to be the most effective. If I'm correct, I'd be able to run two additional 75 watt laser star lights and stay within the stator and battery limits with a few amps to spare. I'd really like to go with 100's but don't think the electrical system would handle it. So far here's what I've got:

290w system = 24.16 amps
55w standard flood = 4.58 amp draw
2X75w = 12.5 amp draw
2x100w = 16.67 amp draw

Number one, are these numbers correct what are the other variables that will complete the equation? I don't know how much the the tail light and ignition system will draw.

Also, since I know for sure I can run the 75w lights, is running 100w's just over kill or would they be worth it if the can be run?

Well I guess that it. Any thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated.

If you have a lot of bucks go for HID lights. For about $800.00 + the price for the lights from http://www.rickystator.com/ you can convert two PIAA's and put out mega light with very low draw of power look at the set up on a 250R http://www.sandbros.com/mikes_ride.html

Well, that would be great if I could afford that setup but I've got a limit of about $400. I just like the style of the Lazer Star lights and I got a couple ideas on mounting. I've just got to find out what the max wattage I can safely run is.

if i remember correctly from and earlier post, the existing regulator cannot handle the additional current draw. you need to go with the regulator that will be on the baja ds. with that regulator they are only running two additional 35w lamps.

one more thing the baja regulator connector is not the same, so you do have to do some rewiring.

Ok, so I gues the next question is where do I get an aftermarket regulator that will handle my needs? Any suggestions?

bad news quicksand, just received info from (ripper-user name)from another forum. the baja ds regulator can handle 360w(good news). the existing electrical system puts out 290w at 6000 rpms- of that 125w are used for charging,coils, brake light. that leaves only 165 watts available for lights. existing headlamp is 55/60 that leaves 105 watts for additional lights. my suggestion is to use the piaa extreme white bulbs, 55/60 headlamp(very bright) and the 35w extreme white(on order)for two additional lights.

Check these lights: trailtech lights

The price is very low and they are brighter than the lazers.
