Need help removing carb bowl....

Well I finally installed my Alba pipe, and went to install a 170 main jet......I can't get the freaking carb bowl screws out! These screws are torqued REALLY tight, and now I have nearly stripped two of the screw heads. I was using a T-handle with a new #2 phillips, so that shouldn't be the problem. Can anyone tell me if they have any little "tricks"?? Has anyone else run into this? Thanks for your time. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif[/img]

I've heard of this problem several times, and this has made me apprehensive about removing the bowl on my DS. However, most people once they do get the screws off have replaced them with allen headed screws. This sounds like an excellent idea, but I cannot remember what size everyone said the job required. I haven't searched for the info recently, but this is definitely the way to go.

Just about every bolt on screw on these things is the same way...really tight. I had to use vise grips to get mine out. I then took them to the nearest hardware store and matched the size with allen head screws, the only way to go. Sorry but I don't remember what size they were. To change the needle setting on the top side you will have the same problem as well as at least one of the screws is next to impossible to get a screw driver on it and get any kind of leverage to get it out.

Did you guys try an impact driver? It costs about 15 bucks or so, but you take a hammer and the correct bit #2 phillips or whatever and tap on the end of the impact driver, and it will amazingly remove any stubborn screw. You can buy these at just about any motorcyle/atv dealer or mail order from the net. I has saved and helped me many times on my wheelers with stubborn screws/bolts.

Yes, The carb. screws are hard to get out. I founl a easy way to get them out, Wse a dremel to cut a slot in the screw the use a flathead to take them out. Replace them with allen screws but make sure thay are stainless or it look's funny. Have fun. Mine was the same way but it was worth the trouble!! It run's great!!!!!

Impact drivers work fine if you got the room to pound on the end of it...some of these screws are hard to just a screw driver on them let alone have enough room to pound with anything.

Update.... It's amazing what a new pair of needle nose vise grips can do! I finally got the screws out and rejetted the main....I still can't believe how tight those screws were. I took everyone's advice and replaced them with allen heads.....much better! Thanks for the help guys![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
