Ive got a 2001 ds. If i change the front sprocket to a 17 tooth do i need to change the rear? I was told this would help make my gears taller will it take away anything? What about the rev moniter is it safe to run that ignition from ron woods{without the rev moniter}? And one more whose exhaust is best big gun or woods racing? AS you can see I have alot of questions I just want to make sure I spend my cash wisely.

17T sprocket will make your gearing a little taller. You do not have to change the rear sprocket. Where in Alabama are you riding that you need to go faster than stock gearing? Consider 22" rear tires, we like 'em.
The rev limiter sucks. I have the Team Pami CDI with no rev limiter, It's just fine without it. I am running 22" rear tires with a 14 T front sprocket for these rough mountain trails out here.

I'll be putting a Ron Woods pipe on the dyno as soon as next week to see how it does. A customer bought it and was very un happy with it. I modified his stock end can and he is much happier now. The customer said I could use the RWR pipe to get some #'s when ever I wanted to. I'll update everyone when I get a chance to do it. So far, the Big Gun gave the best results though.

By going to the 17 tooth rear sprocket, you will lose acceloration but gain top speed. Is that what you were looking for? 22" tires, when used with a 15 tooth sprocket, will give you better traction and your performance will be about the same as stock. Retaining the stock 16 tooth with 22" tires will give you the added traction and the same performance as a 17 tooth sprocket and stock tires. If you want to take off quicker, and get better traction, you will want Fourlix's set up, 22" tires and 14 tooth sprocket. Or just build more power.

If you are strictly drag racing in the sand or dirt you want to be geared as high as possible. This way you are not spinning as much and you are not shifting as much. When we used to race banshees we used to cut 3 to 4 tenths in 300 feet by gearing up. Now I race with snowmoble clutches. Try a 500 horse turbocharged 2.5 mercury 2-stroke boat motor in a streched out atv frame. Its a wild ride.
