Default 414 big bore users ?'s

I know that a couple of people have the 414 big bore kit I just want to do all my homework before I decide I have to get it. ( Or rather beg to spend the $ on things other than food for the kids!!) HA.
1st. How difficult was it to install ? I can do most small engine work, but its been a while.
2nd How much of a difference did it make ? I would expect quite a bit since its 85 cc more. But I also know that clutching and jet work may be needed to get it to best performance.
Any comments would be greatly appriciated. Thanks 12B

I have a Mag 330. Slow but plenty of power. I'm going to get a EPI pink primary for it and I was just curious as to how much extra (felt ) power the 414 kit would give me. I know I need to call Rick. It just seems like I never have the time when I think about giving him a call.

Better buy the 500, 600, 700, or 800, cheaper in the long run.

You have to buy big bore kit for your quad+pipe+carb+airbox+clutch parts++++++++++never ends and you still have a quad the 500 can out run.

Just save your money and do the clutch and K&N air filter and jet kit.

I had the 500 Magnum and the 650 Kaw was faster so I bought the 650 Prairie Kawasaki.
Another guy had a 650 Prairie and spent $1640.00 on cams, pipe, carb kit, air box kit, ignition kit, off set key, clutch mods and lighter weight wheels and tires. Man did that thing sound good, but my near stock 650 was faster on top end, his was just faster out of the hole. All I did was a muffler mod. a clutch spring change and K&N air filter.

Good Luck......................handycap

All of the people I've seen do it, have done it to the Boss, not the Magnum (soon my Boss will be added). On the boss, they were all impressed and liked what it did. With the extra weight the Magnum has, I don't know what it will do as far as speed increase. I'm sure it can be faster, but you may be giving up low end, which I would prefer on the 4x4. I understand the argument of just buying another quad, but also understand the "beg from the wife" argument. I think I'd rather kiss butt for 6 months over a 1000 dollars rather than figure the kiss butt rate of a new quad.

I did the 424 kit on my wifes 04 ATP 330, and we love it. Now remember this machine is geered lower than its counterpart the Magnum, so it is not as fast as it. Thi machine always had plenty of tourqe but no mid rang or top end. Factory motor with stock tires it would go 42 mph, with no mid range or top end power. When we added the EPI pink it suddenly had power through out the band. She rode it with that for a little while and loved it. Then I ran into a buddy who had a buddy who does small engine work and said he had a kit laying aroound for a 325 and it would work. He gave it to me for 300.00 (all seals and parts were included to do the job.) I had a local small engine repair guy install it and he said everything fit like a glove. that costed an extra 225.00 so for 525.00 it has the same power if not a little more than the SP 400. Now we are thinking about changing the rear gears. This is my wifes machine so spendin a couple of buck is no problem. She can't keep up with me but she has a little better help and fun now.

I thought the ATP and the magnum were the same with the exception of the truck bed, and the rear axle ( turf mode ) . As far as the Boss I thought the only thing similar was the drivetrain. But I've been wrong before.
I want to thank everyone for your comments. I absoultly love this forum. I'm a pretty mechanically inclined person who loves to find out how and why stuff works. And this site just helps feed the fire!!

Yes you are correct. When I go to buy parts for my atp the dealer says that they dont make, so I buy them for a Magnum, and everything so far fits. But the ATP does have lower rear end gears. My atp out of the box topped out at 42 and the magnum i rode went 50 but not as much low end torque.

i have the 414 kit in my 02 trailboss and i love it. i thought it made a big difference. i am still working on the gearing. i thought i had it figured out but then i bought a roller secondary and have not figured it out yet. i didn't think it was that hard to install. i did have someone put the motor back together for me but i did the rest with the help of a friend.
