Why are DS pistons $240 and Raptor and 400 EX piston are all $100 to $150? The pistons are about the same size and shape so wtf?

Magorecho is right. It takes unit sales to recoup the cost of development. You also need to look at the design of the piston and who makes it. Our pistons are some of the most expencive, but they are made by JE[a reputable piston maker] and are designed for the most efficient combustion possible. Other piston designs will give the compression you want at the expence of flame travel and combustion efficiency.

The bore is the same, the pin location is different. The valve reliefs are different also. It doen't matter much how different it is, it has to be re-engineered, forged and machined with different set ups.

I could get cheaper pistons, if I and Team Pami didn't care about the quality, but we only sell the best. Trust me, my margine is small. I can't buy these pistons any were near the $100-$150 range.

I think what Knutz is trying to tell you is that he would rather distribute a more costly product that does not have performance or reliability problems, rather than distribute a cheap product which will be plagued with failures and fixes. I've noticed most of the people who (1) Ride a DS650 (2) Produce a product be it ATVs or other (3) Read these forums all have about the same idea, quality over cost. (Cost being a very close second.) Perhaps that is why we all ride DSs instead of the competition. -Please note I did not name any specific machines so as to not point the finger at any one group of riders.
