Found out today that the new DS650 is not sellable in the State of Wisconsin.

Evidently the new machine does not meet the ATV regulations set forth by the State.

The local dealers do not stock them and are not selling them.

Interesting.

 

What Wisconsin criteria, exactly, does the DS650 Bombardier fail?

Not weight, since other quads are heavier, I should think.

Displacement too great? Grizzlies run at the edge of acceptability, if that's the case.

Emissions? I doubt it; the DS650 is probably as clean as any ORV.

Although the Wisconsin DNR ATV regulation web page is under construction, I believe that I remember that ATVs cannot be considered an ATV if their engine displaces more than 600 cc. I am not sure if they have a 600 Lb rule. (But what about all of the Sportsman 500s that ride there.)

HP500EFI = Arctic Cat ZR500 with electronic fuel injection, right? Any "Heel Clickers" or pressure regulators yet?

 

I ride at a place in wisconsin and i know they have a width requirment...since the DS is so wide it might not fit on the trails..not sure but thats the only thing i can think of.

 

I don't know about that law but I do know I seen them at a dealer and I seen one go by on a trailer so I don't know if they are not useable. I also thought wisconsin atvs were supposed to be under 600lbs but I still see Sportsman 500's riding around. My mistake, reading through my atv laws I see the weight limit is 700lbs or less. Width of 48inches or less. I don't know how wide the 650 is but it would be a shame if they can't be sold or ridden here. I think it would be an awesome ride on the trails like Black river falls, as whooped out as some stretches get.

DS650's are 50" in width, and that's too wide for their regulations. I remember when the Sportsman 500 came out it was not allowed on the trails, but people didn't care about it and went on them anyway. Soon after, they got it changed to 700 pounds instead of 600 or 650 or whatever it was. But even at 700, some ATV's are still not allowed, like the Polaris Diesel and Bombardier Traxter. So looks like there is no Bombardier quad that is legal to ride on Wisconsin trails. No wonder I haven't seen any yet!

Thor, HP500EFI is not a ZR500 with EFI -- good guess.

In fact it is Mercruisers new high performance offshore boat motor. 502ci big block, 470 HP with EFI. I am an avid powerboater and ATV'r.
