I've got a couple of questions too, is it true you have to purge the alchol/methanol from the carb and lines every night due to corrosin[sp]? I have heard that fuel milage will be reduced by 1/3 to 1/2, true ? What compression ratio do you run 14 to 1, 15 to 1 ?

I had An Alky carb on my ATC 350X, and it made a big difference. It was as fast as my TRI-Z and My brothers 250r. The boys at FTZ told me that if I didn't ride it atleast once a week that I needed to run some gas thru my engine to prevent corrosion. And yes it did suck on mileage, I would guess 1/3 difference but who cares! methenol is cheap, and is for racing anyways. And it took me about five minutes to put my stock carb back on for trail riding.

I have heard of people just drilling out there jets till it runs good. You would think eventually you will need a fuel pump too.I have also seen old radiator overflow tanks with 3/way petcocks converted to small gas tanks for purging the bike after running alcohol.

Ok they is a demand for this so who ever is the first to do it lets all know. This is the way I think that it should go any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. This is to set up a stock carb.

I. Double the main jet size
a. The best way to do this is to get a numbered drill bit and match the drill bit inside the jet you have and double it. I would use a jet that is too small for you now and KEEP the current jet. You will work your way back down but er on the side of rich.

II. Drop the needle to the #5 or #1 position.
a. This keeps the carb from loading up with fuel because of the big main. I am not sure if the tube needs to be increased or not.
If so then run the #1 if not then run the #5
III. Get a vented gas cap or drill the one you have and put a rubber hose through it. The fuel needs to come out fast and not be vacumed.
Even cracking the gas cap could help but not recommended.

IV. Make sure the fuel lines are not obstructed so you dont starve the bowl and run it dry. Try going up to a bigger fuel line.

V. Tune from the pilot up.
a. Once you put it together start it and see if it will idle. If it does then the pilot is ok, if not increase the pilot size.
b. When you run it full throttle and it skips then it is to rich. Lean out a little at a time until you can run it at full throttle. Your plug should look new this is opposite of gas. If there is a pinging sound then you are lean, stop and richen the main. Do more than one run before you settle on a jet size.

As far as I know these are some of the procedures needed to run alcohol. Also some say that the compression also needs to be increased to get maxium gains. Also the engine will run cooler. The engine will need to be purged at the end of the day with gas also. This will stop the alky from pulling the moisture out of the air at nighttime. I am not an expert at this and any tuner help would be appreciated. Why all want to know how to increase hp.
