The idea of a poker run is people pay $x to participate. The winner either gets a cut of all of the $x's or a prize. If we don't get a permit, we can ask for donation for charity and then maybe find a prize for the winner. That might work.

SSSSSHHHHHHH!!!!!!, there will be no cash prize[wink] as that would get hassle if the permit doesn't happen.

Here in Wyoming, when I was Co-Chairman of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, We didn't have to have any permits because we didn't offer any cash prizes over $500.00 . We were going to do a Casino night at one of the Banquets and the way we were going to do that was you exchanged money for chips then you were gambling the chips and you would cash in the chips for Raffle tickets. So the Gambling was to try and win more tickets. That way it was totaly legal. We even had a Sherriff on the committee that made sure it was. Exchanging the money for cards is perfectly legal. The cards can then be "exchanged" or valued for prizes. If the prizes are donated then all the monies can go to the charities. Quite simple really. What makes it legal is that your are buying a chance not a item.

Blackhawk,
I e-mailed you a map that shows both Reno and Carson City. Personally I prefer Carson City over Reno (more history and old town charm) however its 85 mi to Reno and 83 to Carson City so most people will settle with Fallon. I'm sure there are plenty of things to do there.

neosurfer, I owed you this one since I piqued on the last offer

I just saw a pretty interesting show on the History channel. It was about the F-14 Tomcat. As it turns out the main practice bombing site for the Top Gun program is Fallon Nevada. Makes you wonder about the alarming rate of Luekemia in Fallon's children. Just some thought I thought I should share.

We have seen some pretty amazing flying out there. On a few occasions, I have been at the top and had fighters fly past lower than us! Very cool.

You can hear them doing the bombing thing sometimes too.

DemonDS,
Ha...... just watched the same show on the F14.
I have heard you can ride out to a place where you can actually see them do there bombing runs, never seen it myself though. And I have also heard that some people relate the Lukemeia to the water(ground water contamination from the Naval air station?)
I never fill my water tank up in Fallon.........I always fill up at home...have heard bad things about the Fallon water.

This was posted on the city of Fallon website:

It’s common knowledge that most of the wells in Churchill County contain arsenic. The municipal water system, with arsenic levels of 100 parts per billion, has been featured in recent press coverage. Private wells, however, may actually contain more arsenic -- at levels anywhere from zero to over 800 parts per billion
