EGT guage, good as a dyno?

Dude! Dynos are outrageous, like more than a house, which is why there's only two for carts/quads in the state of Indiana that I'm aware of.
A source to locate the closest Dyno to you is to go to the Dynojet website. They have a dyno-locater page.
The Dyno near me charges $62.00 per run and you get a nice printout of the chart.
If I understand correctly, I think the EGT device can be used to achieve proper fuel/air mixture, which is essential for power and motor protection, but I don't think it can tell anything about power of torque.

Hightower- i can't seem to locate any dirwheels with the egt adds. I am not a mechanic, but can figure out how to get it done. I assume that a temp of xxxx would be good and just work your way to it. Once you achieve that temp, it would be the same as using a dyno? Maybe the egt is better? I was of the opinion that dyno's are not real expensive.

I have found that all dyno's are different,we have several here and they are all different. If you are wanting to use them for a base line run and try to improve then that's fine, but if one guy says he gets more hp than you, it could be just the dyno.I had them very as much as 5-10hp,depending on who's doing what.I made 49 runs on wed, just to see how much more i could get.

I don't have a dyno of my own, yet, but I'm looking. A base model is about $12,000, and all the extra's that I want brings the total to around $22,000. I currently use a local motorcyle shops dyno. I've found out that this one is extremely closely calibrated to Bombardiers dyno, by talking with their engineers about results coming from bikes dynoed on both.
A dyno with an air fuel analizer and load control is the best way to tune a bike. An exhaust temp gauge is better than nothing, but not exactly the best way. One problem is that the temp probe actually restricts the exhaust slightly, causing an inacurate result. If the probe is a full time thing[not just installed for tuning and then removed] then you have a permanent restriction in the exhaust in a really bad place for one[close to the head].
