k&n sn2550 saga..

Hightower,
There is no "cutting" of the frame involved. You would simply attach the shim to the frame using the existing holes that are there, or if you prefer, using an adhesive such as foam servo tape or an epoxy or even clear silicone. The shim only acts as a spacer to increase the gap.

We were riding up high a couple of weeks ago, about 9,000 ft. The DS was running kinda rough, like it was too rich. I popped the airbox lid off and, viola', perfect. Back home, at 4,000 ft. it was running pukey, too lean, put the airbox lid back on, and Bingo, right back where we started.
I have just ordered the clamp-on, but I think I will send it back. I already have the K&N with the outerwears that came on the stock filter.
Rejetting the DS is so easy, with allen head bowl screws that is.
I think I will just take the lid off and jet appropriately. I can always put the lid on if I go down in elevation, or rejet.

I did the same thing as Forlix. I am jetted for sea level went to Sand Mt. at 4000' and removed the air box lid and ran great.
I just bought a K&N carb mount but haven't taken it out of the plastic wrap yet. It appears to have a bend in it to where the filter would aim downward once mounted on the carb. Would this solve the problem? Could this be a new design? Do they all have this feature.
I may end up sending mine back as well. I don't wish to do all kinds of shimming.
Also had lead-time issue:
I ordered my K&N the same time I ordered a Woods CDI. Not sure what hapened but it should only take a day to UPS from Southern CA to Northern CA. I was charged on the 26th and it didn't show up until the 2nd of April. There was no problem with my address and I gave my phone number so, if something was on backorder I would have expected to have been told at the time of order or called later. If I had made trip plans for last weekend, I would have been very disappointed.

You guys wanna know what i think about this k&n saga,it doesn't matter what filter you have on it as long that it fits on the carb thats all that counts, and if it does sit on the frame an dents a little that doesn't matter either it's not gonna stop the flow of air going in actually i think it's better if it sit on the frame it holds the carb more stable, about the outerwear if you put a small piece of duck tape where it rubs it will fix your problem...
