Kodiak01,
I had the same problem once with the stock carb right after I put the carb mount filter on,I forgot to put a breather on the end of the clear tube coming off the top off the carb (sucked in sand)caused the slide to stick every once and awhile,Good thing I had an extra carb...

For the stock tank breather hose - I drilled a 1/4 inch hole through the tank cover, just in front of the gas cap and ran the stock breather hose through it, under the bars, down beside the steering stem, and cut off the extra 3 feet that used to wrap around the tank. What a stupid design. Its just like having a vented cap now, but it didn't cost $50.

Your DS shuts off because of multiple reasons.
1)It cant run 24/7
2)Cant go too far on gas
3)You pushed the kill switch
