Please answer fast! Tire Question
#1
Ok, I need some good, cheap tires for just the rear on my DS. I have the stock Baja fronts, and was thinking of going to a 22in rear tire. I only weigh 120lbs, so I don't squat the front end down enough to have good traction, so I thought bigger back tires might help. Would it affect my top-end, or low end?
I need some tires that won't wear fast, that are under $100 for the pair, and will go on the stock rims. I also want super good traction. I thought maybe DirtDevils? would the tread be too aggressive?

How about shock preload - have you changed it from the stock setting? You want 20%-25% sag in front, 30%-35% sag in rear. This means that you want the front shocks compressed around 3", and the rear shock compressed 4", with YOU on the bike. FULLY EXTEND all suspension, measure from front and rear bumpers to the floor, then get on and measure again. Adjust spring preload to achieve the above measurements of "sag". If sag is currently not correct and you get it set right, you will notice a decent improvement in handling.
Sag was too much for me at the factory setting, as I weigh 235, but for you it was probably not enough.
If you adjust your front suspension, then your toe will need reset afterwards because toe changes at different levels of shock compression. Let me know if you need help with that too.
You will be surprised at how the handling will get better, with just these simple and free adjsutments.
I love the stock Baja tires (Ohtsu Radials), traction is awesome, especially at 4psi, even in the sand. They do wear out quick though - very soft rubber - good for traction, bad for life.
Tire choice will depend on your riding area/style. If you like MX tracks, you'll want to stay with 20" MX style tires, but if you want more ground clearance and traction for woods, creeks, mud and such, 22" would be better. They will be harder to spin, so holeshot will suffer, and you may want to go to a 15T front sprocket with the 22" tires.

Also, Razors are almost as soft as Ohtsus. If you're wearing them out, you'll wear out the Razors. Turf Tamers, Holeshots, Shredders, Bandits wear farely well compared to Ohtsus and Razors. Then there's the new Kendas we now nothing about yet - Knarly, or something like that...

I just got Maxxis All Traks, and they are the greatest tire i have ever owned for a quad. they get awsoem traction for any condition. only problem they make a it difficult to slide.
