Clear Radiator Hose
#21
Hey, I went to Home Depot last night, and got some tubing that looks the same as your pictures. Clear PVC with the braided material inside? I put them on last night, but when I woke up, the longest hose was pinched, so I took it off. All I have on there now is the small piece running from the top of the radiator to the engine. I ran the bike a couple times and it seemed to get really hot, just idling, and the hose itself gets really soft. I'm leaving tomorrow to go riding, so we'll see how that holds up.

Hmm,
Yea, Mines clear PVC with the material inside, but I dont remember it getting real soft. Id watch it and for sure take you regular hoses with you just in case. Like I said, the piece I bought was boiled for over 2 hours and did not get soft. Where you got the hose, did they have a bunch of spools of different sizes adn cost about 75-80 cents a foot?

Yeah, I got it where they had a bunch of different types of hoses, all on spools, I think I got it for around $.95 a foot. Used the bike for 4 days this week, so far everything is good, but I think I might just put the regular ones back on till I can get something that is more permanent. It seems to be getting a little cloudy too...????

those Home Depot hoses are only rated to 100 or 150 degrees max. I don't think that is enough. There are some food grade high temp hoses rated up to 300 but are expensive and it is easier to just buy from alba or rockymountain.

Most consumer products have a safety factor built in to avoid liability issues. The standard in general industry is usually a 3 to 1 safety margin.
If the hoses are rated for 100 - 150 degrees, I would assume they can take the temps our DS's run at.

I agree that sometimes things can be to good to be true. I have not been doing any real duning yet, just drag racing, but I can tell you that my motor has gotten plenty hot and the hoses seem to be holding up fine. Will they in the long run? Not sure, thats why I take my stockers with me wherever i go(in the tool box, not on the quad!). I did check them a few days ago and dont seem to be having any problems, but time will tell..
In fact, one of the hoses at one point comes within 1/2 inch of my pipes and no problems there either...

The hose I got from Home Depot was rated for 70psi at 200 degrees. I think that is the same as everyone elses, clear with white braid in it. There is one difference everyone elses hoses fit, I got the wrong size.

you guys have a great idea but i don't like the white braided material inside, it looks like the hose on my lawn sprayer, i don't want that on my quad, i'm gunna try to find some with out the material and use 2 90's on the bottom so i don't have to worry about kinking the hose

Lilnotts, you have the right idea with 90's but not 2 on the bottom. Use one where the line exits the radiator. The other sde will not kink. Use the other one on the short line from water pump, to motor. Also make sure you use clear 90's wish I had pics. The 90's solve all the problems.
