Where do the washers go? I had them off and I can't remember which one goes where. Is the fat one at the bottom and the thin one at top? How embarassing

Hey Crashnburn~
I'll feel like an idiot with you because the same problem has happened to me. I just put them back in so the needle would stay tight. I think the fat washer went on the bottom and thin one on the top. My DS is very responsive now, so I'm not gonna take that needle out anymore!!

Stock ds carb diagram.. this might help. You can zoom in on this picture. I'm assuming you talking about the stock needle?

buttfungus, I've already tried that, they look the same you can't tell which is which. I'm using the stock needle. Here is how I have mine now from top to bottom, 1)the e clip 2)the thin washer 3)the white spacer 4)the fat washer. Is that right?

Please look under a good light into the bottom of the cavity in the slide.
You may have, like many have noticed, a flat across bottom.
I have ground a small flat on the fat washer till it fit the bottom.
The height of the flat is thicker than the small washer.
So the fat metal washer must be used first, thick white(nylon) washer, clip and finally the thin washer. You will notice the needle now projects straighter and has equal clearance around needle to slid.

Carb diagram

Click on the above link, it will show you a really good diagram from Dynojet on spacer placement.

WIScrambler - the spring at the top of the needle has a purpose, if you're needle is packed in so that it is tight then the springs purpose is lost. This can be causing the jet needle to not be able to flex in the needle jet like it should, rubbing on the wall, and over time it will get a wear mark on its side.

Needle rubbing is further enhanced by the flat spot in the bottom of the slide hole that Oldmanracing refered to. Grinding the flat on the botom washer like he said will allow the needle to sit straight, instead of rubbing the side of the needle jet over time.

Thanks guys, the tip about grinding the fat washer makes sense. I noticed the flat spot at the bottom but I never thought anything of it.
