Hey, well, It's been a long time since I hooked mine up, but I'm pretty sure that the short wire (ground) goes to any black wire, but make sure the wire is all solid black, because some have a stripe on them. And the long wire (engine pulse) goes to the black wire with a white stripe that comes out of the tach. It only took me like 2 seconds to put it on, you don't even have to take the front panel off. Hope I helped
