Got the carb on today and had about an hour to ride and tune, if I was doing it right. A definite improvement in top end power! A bit more midrange and low end is about the same. I will get some hard numbers next Friday when I head to the track with it.

My install didn't go as smooth. If I had the right throttle cable it would've been a 20 minute job, but modifying the stock throttle became a hassle. I routed the throttle cable under the gas tank cover so it would go straight down into the carb without any bends and make the throttle much smoother. I had to really grind on the handlebar mounted part to get the full travel on the carb slide. It works but there is a lot more travel to the thumb throttle now! It spends most of its time wide open now too, yeeha.

One problem. WHen I hammer it at low rpms it sputters for a second and then takes off like it got hit from behind by a semi. Any idea how to get rid of the sputter?

Rerouting the cable to go under the tank cover is a good idea. I may have to try that. I have mine going under the gas tank.

As far as the spudder, I'm not sure, I don't have that problem. It's probably not the power jet if it's at low rpms, did you adjust the metering rod at all?

I was just reading up on how to adjust the meter rod. It looks like I wasn't doing it right. I was adjusting the nut at the top of the carb. I will try again tomorrow and get it dialed in, Thanks.

I think that nut is to adjust the cable.

I need to read up on it again. From what I got out of it is that you push the rod up, then turn in for richer, out for leaner. But then didn't it say somthing about the flat side of the rod having to face forward?

Well I tried about ten different positions of the metering rod and I always adjusted it so the flat side faced the motor like they suggested, but I cant get the low end dialed in. It sputters when you rev it and backfires through the intake and you can even see gas spit out if the filter is off. I tried to lean it out because I know it is way rich on the bottom end but to no avail. It says in the instructions to go to a leaner metering rod, but how do I tell what size is in it? Mine says 2XL and the instructions say it should be an 8-1 or 9-1??????

The power jet must be set right because the top end is fierce. I can finally take advantage of the better breathing capabilities of the ported head and intake. I just need to get the bottom end dialed in.

The rod has threads on the end of it. If you want the carb richer, you srew the rod in and opposite for leaner. If you end up on a quarter turn or half turn, then you push up on the rod and twist it so that the rod's flat side is faceing towards the motor.

I think that is clear as mud
