Drag Racing - How to tie down the front end??
#1
I'm planning on going back to the track Friday and want to know the best and safest way to tie the front end down. I don't have time to make a wheelie bar and I need a way to keep the front end down. Any suggestions or tried and true methods? thanks in advance.

Do you have time to make some struts to replace the spring/shock assembly? Or you might be able to make some brackets to lower the mounting point of the shock on the control arm. I would go one of these routes. Not sure how it would affect handling at high speeds though.

<< What if you maxed out preload and compression in the rear and left the front relatively soft? >>
That was my plan, but even with the front boingers on their softest preload setting, it will still have a tendancy to lift on acceleration. Maybe I'll try that anyway.

Ian, If I wasn't working 12 hour days this week I would rig something like that up, it seems like the best idea. Handling would change since the DS's toe and caster angles change throughout the suspension travel.

Find you a place that builds race cars or sells race car parts & get a set of Solid front struts like these. Make sure you get steel & not aluminum rod ends.
Figure out what size you want & strap em on.
I got mine at a place that builds sprint cars. They had all diffrent lengths in stock.

I have seen it two different way's.
1)The guy had taken the shocks off of a 400ex
and replaced his with them. This still gave him
some "boingers" in case he came down hard.
2)Take 1" square tubing and 3/4 square tubing and
slide them together. You can make a adjustable
strut like this. Or just get a 1" square tubing
and cut it to the lenght that you want your front
to sit at.

if not any of that go get an 18t front sprocket LOL one of my friends has one and he was freaking fast it was supposed to run 107mph with 22 inch sand tires on it from markynarks calculator!but you will have to start in 1st gear...just watch out for neutral.i always hit it so i start out in 2nd but ya i mean the 18t may keep the front end down some but it will still raise up...BUT thats MY opinion...Thanx
