Rocky, it sounds like you need a different metering rod.

Example: The metering rod number is 4-4. The second number stands for how rich or lean the mid range is. 4-0 is leaner in the mid range then the 4-4.

The first number is for the top end tuning. ) being the leanest and 19 being the richest.

I am supprised that Fast by Gast has not told you that you need a different metering rod with what has been posted here.

Great minds think alike. I suggested the same thing to Kevin @ FastbyGast. He didn't think that I needed a different sized rod. Maybe I should just order another one anyway.

I tried changing the power jets as well, I got a 20, 30, and 40 tried them all. I did get mine pretty close, I could hold the throttle 1\2 open then punch it, but the third or fourth time punching it it would start to back fire and pop. Plugs stayed black all day. I even leaned it out to the point it wouldn't start.

Rocky, JBomb stated a while back that he tuned his by leaning it out till it wouldn't rev up, then richen it one turn and it should be right on. I tried this and it still popped. When it does rev it sounds like a raped ape.

Also, have you looked inside your carb and pushed the throttle to see how far the slide comes up. Mine comes up just a little more than half way. I adjusted the throttle cable so that the slide goes all the way to the top at full throttle but then the bike doesn't start.

If your slide isn't going all the way to the top, then you need to adjust your throtle cable. Mine goes clear to the top. If it stops halfway, there is no way your getting full power from that carb.

Like I said, if I adjust it to go to the top then the bike doesn't start. Maybe I need to adjust it so that it goes to the top then try to jet it.

I think that I've got it tuned now. It took a while but my plugs are no longer black and the bike revs really well. What I did was richen it till it backfires and sputters, then lean it 1\4 turn till the bike will not idle, till it starts to wander, the engine will kind of rev and not idle( it's hard to explain I hope I'm not confusing you here. ) Then when it gets to this point richen it back 1\4 turn and you should be right on.

Rocky, are you using the stock throttle still? I am having an issue with mine, my throttle doesn't have enough thru to pull the slide all the way to the top and open her wide up. I adjusted the cable but it either wouldn't start or just revved out of control. When I adjust the cable it pulls the slide up to far. I guess I'm going to have to order up a different throttle. I guess for the time being I'll be running a 33mm lectron.

You can make the stock throttle work. You have to grind part of the throttle housing on the handlebars away though. Its as simple as looking at it and seeing what causes the throttle to stop and then just remove/grind it away. It will take quite a bit of grinding. I'm surprised you were riding with only 3/4 throttle capability! It will rock once you get full throttle.

Yeah I saw the part that stops the thumb lever from going any further, but I opened the housing up and I don't think there enough room inside to pull any further.

What did you grind it down with?

I may just order up a new one.

You have to remove part of the housing wall. I used a hand held grinde, a dremel will work also.

Grind a hole in the side of the houseing so that it can slide further?

Have you looked into a twist throttle? I'm looking into them now, they seem pretty cheap.
