Who's going? We'll be leaveing friday morning staying in the flats, by Gecko rd. I think.

Hopefully there's someone running a lectron that is going cause I need help. My bike is running very hot and my plugs are black. I trying to lean it out till it wouldn't rev up then richen it from there. I can get it pretty close but it is still backfiring a little.

Any tips or tricks from the lectron guys.

I'm having similar problems with my Lectron. It fouls plugs totally black. If I lean it out it backfires and cuts out. I thought it would only backfire and miss if it was too rich. It does it when it is too lean or too rich. It is almost impossible to get it tuned in right. I even talked to Lectron and had them try to help. Its a shame because the power and throttle response is so good. I just hate fouling $2.50 plugs like its a two stroke!

Will the plugs being black cause the bike to backfire. Should we changed plugs and try again? Once the plugs are black will they change colors if we lean the bike out. Mine didn't.

Rocky, try getting the jetting as close as you can using the needle, then play with the idle adjustment to try and cure the back fireing. It sort of worked for me, my jetting isn't perfect but it's close. I just got sick of pulling the slide out and quit for the night. I must have pulled that slide out 20 times. I guess it just takes time.

How much do you turn the needle each time you rejet. I was using 1\2 turns which may have been to much.

Ive probably had the slide out to adjust the needle between 50-75 times. I can do it in about 45 seconds now. I have tried every position under the sun in 1/4 turn increments. When I get it to where it seems perfect it will run great for hours, then it will have trouble trying to start maybe a few days later and I'll pull the plugs and they will be fouled black from the carbon buildup. If I try to lean it back out from there it will backfire when I try to rev it up and my bottom end sucks. I have also adjusted the idle adjustment too.

Our problems sound very similar, the exact same thing happens to me, does your bike run hot?

They do sound similar. How do you know yours is running hot? Mine is actually running cool, because the fan rarely if ever comes on anymore, which jives with the black sparkplugs, meaning too rich=cool.

It doesn't run hot to where the fan comes on but I can feel the heat on my leg as I'm riding. And now that I think of it, my exhaust isn't as sealed as it should be so maybe the heat is escaping the pipe where the head pipe and exhaust meet, which happens to be right by my leg.

What kind of plugs are you running. I'm running the NGK's, if that's what your running don't do to a M\C store to get them. Just go to Pepboys and have then cross reference the number. There only about a buck.

I'm going to research on Lectron site and see if I can get this figured out. I wish I could get it tuned right and see what this carb can really do.

I'm probably out of my league when it comes to Lectrons, but has anyone tried running a hotter plug?

When you all purchased the carbs, did they send you any jets that go into the powerjet?

I would tune the carb so that it has great throttle response and starts easily, then I would work on the "Powerjet". If they sent you some powerjets, the smaller the number, the leaner it is.

They did send a powerjet. According to Kevin the power jet makes a very small change in the A/F ratio compared to turning the rod and the powerjet only affects the top end.
