Default First time in sand and I have a few ?'s

First time in sugar sand pits near my home. Its not glamis but was it FUN. I have the 15t front sproket with the stock tires for now. No other power mods YET. I am working on them now. I noticed that I spun all over the sand and did not get much speed. I also noticed that it bogged down on me at times in 3rd gear climing. Do paddles do this too? If I go with the 23/22 tire combo like say with the RAZRs will it make it even harder in sugar sand?? Is this normal for a stock DS in sand and climinb hills and burms???

Basically the best way to describe how different it is with paddles, it will feel more like it does with the regular tires on it in the dirt. It will have less power than it does on dirt but the added traction and handleing will make it not seem that way.

You'll want paddles, bigtime. As bad as people say the stock tires on dirt, they are REALLY bad on sand. You'll want to get a good set of paddles, don't go for Kendas or any of the cheap deal ones. There are two brands which I know of that people are getting good results using. Sand Tires Unlimited (I have these) and Scat-Trak. Both companies make good straight or V shaped paddles, so you'll have to decide which type of paddle you want then worry about the brand & tire specifics after that.

The straight paddles will give you insane straight line / drag racing traction, but are difficult to turn. The V paddle tires give you excellent maneuverability and slightly less traction.

If you plan to drag, get straight paddles, if you plan to just have fun, get the V paddles. Or if you have the cash, get both & be ready for anything.

Yea, I am
a: no one in my group has a sport but me
b: no one was at the sand pits yesterday.
c: I am a newbie to sportbikes I came from a Polaris 500.

So I pretty much hit and miss.. I don't under stand when people talk about the DS badly. Like stearing, tires and such. Its better then what I have ever had.

well if you want to ride in sand and mud i would suggest some 22" Realtors, i have a pair and they hook up great, but will wear quickly if you do alot of riding on hard pack, like when i got my ds this past july i rode it for about 3 weeks like at least 6 times a week, and since it was so dry it wore about 1/8" off the tread,
