Default Cylinder Head Removal

I was looking at my shop manual for the procedure I will have to go through when I can afford to get a high comp. piston. Well, it says that i'll have to remove the engine from the quad to get the head and cylinder off. Is that true? Isn't there enough room to swap out pistons without remove the engine?

U should be able to do the swap without complete removal. Just remove the intake manifold, front motor mounts, & lower motor mounts then tilt the motor forward. You should have enough room to do it.

Thats good to hear. I see you have a 11.5:1 piston. Did you install it?

If you notch the frame just above the rear head motor mount, like RWR does, the head will slide off of the studs with no problem. No worries, plenty of frame strength in that area.

Just tilt the motor forward. It is really easy. Undo all the motor mounts except for the lower back one and it will tilt forward just enough.

No on the picture. I don't have a digital camera. But it is real obvious when you get to that point, you just pull the head up the studs until it contacts the frame and you will see the little bit that needs to be removed. It takes a little time the first time, but reassembly goes very smooth, and if you remove the head again, for valve work, or say a 12.5:1 piston, you will be glad that you did it this way.

there is plenty of room, like they said just pull the intake manifold and the front engine mount. no cutting required. just replace the head nuts when reinstalling.
