Default Electrical Question

Ok, I was just out at the DS planning and making sure of how I am going to mount my gauges and such and then I realized I still had to get power to them and I began looking at all the wires and realized what a mess it would be to splice into all of them. My question is would the gauges work if I spliced into the wires off my kill switch. I want the gauges to be lit only when the ignition is on, not constantly or I would hook them up to the headlights.

You can splice them into the "ignition" so when you turn the key on the lights come on. OR you can splice them into the head light(low beam) so when you turn your headlamp on the lights come on.

So, I will need to splice them into the wires coming from the key under the dash?

yes, The key is nothing more than a toggle switch really. One wire will be hot all the time, and the other will be hot when the key is turned ON, thus connecting the two wires. So you need to slice into the one that is only hot when the key is ON.

You can use a test light to find the one you want.

Alright simple enough and the ground from the gauge just needs to be grounded somewhere on the frame right.
