Default Oil light came on!!!

I took the Baja out for a ride up and down my street and the oil light came on. I thought it's due for an oil change, so I changed the oil & filter and bled the bleeder screw. When I went to start it the light was still on. Anybody have any ideas what it could be?

If the bike was still cool when the light came on And after the oil change it still came on. My guess would be the oil pressure sensor. I would check all the wiring going from the light back to the oil sensor and the water temp sensor. In fact check the water temp sensor and make sure it's not letting current go through when the engine is cool. Could be that too.

I pulled off the wire from the oil sensor and the light went out. I suck at electrical so I am not sure what else to do. I am going to take it to the dealer tomorrow and see if they can find it. I will look at the wires from the sensor to the light tonight and see if they are OK.

If your not sure then the dealer would be the thing to do. You would need a meter to test the oil and water sensors. But as you say you can check the wires to make sure that none of the are bare and touching the frame anywhere.

Just checked the wires and they are all in the loom. Where they come out of the loom they are all OK. I hope it's just the sensor, guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Is it common for the oil sensor to go out?

I used the same place the sensor screws into the case. Seems to read accurately. I bought the gauge from jegs. Came with all the fittings needed for the install. If you have any questions, just ask. Be more than happy to help.

Just got back from the dealer. It was the oil sensor. They didn't have any in stock so the mechanic pulled one off a new DS to check it and see if it worked and it did, so he let me have it and said he would order a new for that DS. Bought him a twelve pack and headed home. Guess I get to ride this weekend.
