JEFFROE,
You may have missed my point. I didn't mean to say that the 45 wouldn't perform. It does, and a hell of alot better than the stock CV POS that was on there. My point was that you referred to torque, and if someone wants to build a "torquey" motor out of the DS, the 45 wouldn't produce as much bottom end/midrange punch. It's all about throttle response. I am quite sure that your throttle response is a ton better that it was with that limp dish rag CV carb that you removed. I am not trying to tell you or anybody else that the 42 is better that the 45, just that there is more than one way to build a motor. I am lucky to have access to a flowbench an can make decisions for my build based on the results of testing. The 45 would have worked fine, but the velocity dropped considerably and I wasn't willing to trade snappy throttle for a 7% bore size increase that equated to a 3% flow capacity increase.

KenDS your flow report jives with what Edelbrock told me. The 42mm is a better carb than there dual cabs set up on Harley. The Duals have a little more end but the 42 has better throttle response. The duals carbs take over on engines above 101 cubic-inches

1: Can some one PLEASE explaine the accelerator pump to me?? why do some run with it and some with out it? what are the pros and cons?
2 Does the 45 offer THAT much over the 42 to justify the huge cash differance?? unless you REALLY want to just beat your buddy.

I ride trail and can already smoke my buddies. I just want a better carb with better noticible performane and I dont spend arm and a leg..

The accelerator pump is used to get you going. For some reason unknown to me flat side carbs have a slight hesitation on the start on big four stroke engines. A well tuned pump will give just enough gas to fill in this hesitation.
