Default New Carb Worth It?

even with the hesitation will it still out perform the stocker?
Yes!

What I mean is it only noticiable on the clock or can you feel the hesitation then does it just rip after the hesitation?
Yes!

why would the pump make it so stiff? why is it so stiff compaird to the stocker??
Because of the resisitance of both the return spring for the accel pump and the resistance of the pump plunger in the fuel chamber pumping fuel. The stocker is what is called a constant velocity (CV) carb, when to pull the throttle cable all you are moving is a butterfly in the carb throat. The reason there is no hesitation issues with the stocker is due to the design. When you open the butterfly a low pressure event takes place immediately behind the now open butterfly, at this point the slide drops to close the opening until engine RPMs can catch up and increase vacuum to properly atomize the fuel mixture, whew. This system works fine on a recreational type motor but you won't see too many racers using CV carbs, they react way too slow.

anyone else make a decent NON stiff carb???
I am unaware of any carb that overcomes the above explanation with a magic pill. It's those damn physics again.

I want a carb but it sounds like it more trouble then its worth...
It's really not that tough, I wish I could help you more but there is too much geography between us. Forget the cable mod, forget the accel pump, put it on and ride it. It will make a more noticable difference than anything you could do for the price.

Would the Dual 39mm Keihin Carbs be a good choice for a bike with just bolt ons, or would the 45 be the better choice?
39's are pretty big and unless you are pretty handy with tuning dual carbs can be a pain. If, however, you plan on going big bore and cams soon it might be worthwhile. If not, and tuning doesn't scare you then 36's might be a better choice.

MudStud,

Don't be afraid of the 42mm, It will stay right with the 45mm. I have the 45mm, and have raced a DS(with same mods) with the 42mm, and we ran side by side, The guy loved it.

To make your decision easier, Dunedevil has 2 hsr42mm carbs and will make you a great deal on one! They are like brand new, Give him a PM.

The only difference between the 42 and 45 is the bore size, otherwise they are the same.
