Default Shifting forks?$?$?

I priced some shifting forks for my DS today, $47.00 EACH!! OUCH!!

Does anyone know of a place to get them cheaper?

And also, I am wondering if I only need one or all three??? First gear pops out, but the other gears seem to be fine, second from time to time acts up also.

Thanks,

Bigger.

I really think you ony need 2 of the 3....(the 2 bigger ones)
The good thing is,that the new ones are upgraded, looks like a better heat treatment
Also I have paid 41 bucks each....tell-em you want a discount!!!!!!

Thanks Jeff,

Can you tell me which shifting fork shifts which gears??

I will buy all three if need be(I guess), I dont want to split the cases and do a half a$$ed job.

Bigger:

Jeff will probably tell you this (since he has done it)

If you are splitting the cases to replace the forks, send off your gears for undercutting.

Cost is about $200

I think Jeff had told me This Guy does it.

If I were you I would put up the extra $ and replace all of them with the new forks. Your dealer should show them as an updated part number. I think they had more of a black matte look to them than my original ones.

The engagement dogs are undercut. When the gears go in they tend to stay in since the stress on them pulls them in harder.

If yours are warn at all, the shifting fork will not fix that, the gears may be hanging up on the shifting fork but, if your engagement dogs are rounded off, the gears will continue to pop out.

I am going by memory here so others may be able to confirm or correct me.

bigger: I had the exact same problem. 1st gear poping out ,2nd gear, sometimes. maybe you should park it,
I made the mistake of riding just a little too long with that problem, and it cost me $1350.00 Canadian in parts and aanother $ 600.00 in labour and #@$* taxes..., oh well... live and learn

Duneme is correct...
If the engagment dogs are worn.....It is cheaper & better to fix them.
They can be fixed cheaper..plus more undercut can be added..by MRE
And then Chryo treated..,..
All for less then a new tranny
