Default Glamis...What to expect?

I have a group of about 20 heading to Glamis for the very first time on Feb 15th for Pres holiday week.
1. What kind of crowdes can we expect?
2. Where sould we camp to get away from the large masses?
3. Are the dunes packed or can you feel safe riding with kids(11 year olds with Z400's) in the dunes?

1. 50 thousands or so
2. Gecko road or go down to Gordons Well
3. Lot s of places to ride just stay away from the drag racing area It can get out of controll
Find out where the cloesd area are and stay out they are watching.

if you dont mind people getting a little crazy the go ahead and park on gecko road. When your out ridng make sure no sandrail comes flying over from the other side. Presidents weekend it gets pretty busy so be careful.

Your telling him to camp along Gecko road to get away from the crowds?

Camp in the washes. The farther down you go the better. Flag off an area, be reasonable. You are on the other side of the dunes from the aft drags and way south of vendors row where more craziness goes on at night etc. The dunes are right next to you. Just get on your quad and go. : ) The dune area is large enough to get away from people and not be running over each other. Wash 10-? should get you in an area that you can get a camp and not be right on top of your neighbor.

the dust can be real bad in the washes, and you might want to bring some ear plugs so the trains won't wake you up, depending on what your driving you may not want to go to far from road, my RV got stuck first time and almost did this time, the wash road was very badly whooped out during FSW

Go to Gordans Well, lots of open camping not as many bone heads, you can also cross the freeway by using the bridge by the store, that area is called Buttercup. Have Fun

Thanks for all the replies!
Question 1, at Gordons wells, what is the camping area like....All sand, dirt, blacktop...primative, outhouses????? Can I get in/out with a 35 foot motorhome?
Question 2, down Gecko road, does it get less or more crowded the further down you go? again, Can I get in/out with a 35 foot motorhome? Is the road dirt? How wide?

We went to Dumont last year and that dirt (Dust bowl) camping a bummer. Plus it tears up your paddles. I've been to Pismo about 100 times over the last 25 years, I can handle sand camping. But some sands are much softer than Pismo sand.

Hard packed to loose sand, yes you can get your motor home in there, when you cross the canal bridge take the road that goes either left or right of the pay station, keep going on one of those roads it will open up to a large flat and the ground will get harder as you go.
There are no out houses, only at the store called Paradise. No paved parking, park wherever you want, unload and lit the fun begin!!! the dunes will be to your right, dont get to close to that area it gets real soft, the farther you go back the softer, however it is about 1/2 -3/4 mile wide and goes back about 3 -4 miles. The farther you go back the less store traffic and dust. have fun!!! BR

well if you decide on gordon's well stop by and have a beer w/ us, we'll be camping w/ the guys from Richard's ATV. He'll be the one with a big black trailor with red letters on it. Just look for that or the baja with trimmed fenders.
