Alky Setup for DS - suggestions
#1
So I'm looking at one of my last rides in the great California sand dunes for presidents day (I may get shipped back to NY for work ) And I would really like to make a good showing out there at Dumont for president's day. I've got a stock carb coming in from one of the members here, but I'm not sure how best to set it up for alcohol. Any suggestions?
I've read some posts that talk about a 200 to 215 Main jet (i should be able to bore a stock one out) does that sound right, how about the pilot jet or air screw settings, needle settings? I've got stock guts in the engine, with RWR CDI, Full RWR Pipe and carb mount K&N. I was at FSW II so I know some of you boys have drunk bikes, c'mon ... please fill me in. Thanks,

I have a 45mm thats coming off soon. Going back to stock carb. Had the 45 on alky and it ran real strong. I have other plans now that are going to use the stock carb, so let me know what you find out. I will be experimenting and will let you know if I come across a good setup!!
I have a 45 with alky conversion kit I won't be needing........pm me somebody...I need sand tires!!!!

Boxman,
THanks for the reply! What is the alky conversion kit that you're talking about? What did you have to do to the carb to make it work? I'm expecting to just have to put monster jets in the pilot and main jet. Is there anything else?
Thanks,
N

The stock carb is hard to set up for alky, I could never get it dialed in cause it has 3 jets. I went to a 45mm and no problem.
If you are going to try and get the stock carb converted, I would drill out the Main jet to the same size as the needle tube, then the tricky part would be to dial in the Pilot jet, along with the needle position. I have no idea what the 3rd jet is for. Good luck!

So, the 45 only has one jet? How would you set it up...just a bigger main? Who makes the 45 we're talking about? Okay, sorry, lots of questions....just want to go faster

Neo,
The 45mm has 2 jets and is simple to set-up for alky. The BSR42mm(stock) carb is more difficult.
You want the HSR45mm , and their are people in this forum that have some for sale. I think Boxman has one he is taking off his quad, and I know that DuneDevil has the HSR42mm carb(same carb but alittle smaller bore, but will give you more air Velocity[that means better throttle response) and he will give you a good deal on it aswell.
I would not be afriad to go with either one of these carbs. Either one will give you a BIG difference over your stock carb.
HEY and don't worry about it, EVERYBODY want to go faster!

Bigger,
Thanks man! Sounds like you had some problems with the stocker....that's too bad. It sounds like I need the hsr42 or 45....do you need anything else besides that carb? Accelerator pump...that kind of thing?

NO nothing else, you can also slightly modify the stock throttle cable to fit these carbs, You shouldn't be out any money other than what you pay for the carb.
Go get one,and if you ned any help setting it up for gas or ALKY ,let me know.
