Intake And Filter setup???
#1
As some of you remember when I was at 4SW II I ran my bike on the dyno with two different air filter setups ( K&N carb mount and a Uni on the end of an intake tube 2-3/4" ID) Well the K&N carb mount made 4 more HP on top. My intake tube was about 15" long with a 2-3/4" ID opening on the carb side and tapers to a 3-1/2" opening on the filter mount side. I thought maybe it was the Uni so I orderd a TRX250R K&N clamp on filter ( This filter has a 4" opening) for the intake tube and tried it again. I am still losing top end HP. Could it be I am getting more air and running lean or is the TM-45 made to run with a carb mount setup? Please Help!!!! Thanks..

Is the snorkle intake in the airbox?? or is the filter in the open?? I would think the stock snorkle with an exposed air filter would be just as good if not better than a Carb mount filter.

Check your jetting. K&Ns flow way better than foam filters, you are probably lean on top now.

Why the homemade tube - why not try the stock intake tube, with the airbox lid off and the snorkels removed? i know they collapse a little at high rpm, but you can help prevent that with large hose clamps places between every other rib of the intake tube. I'm just curious if it would make a difference.
You could also put a Uni filter direct on the carb - it wouldn't be hurt by the seat. just put some cloth tape at the rub points of the outerwear to keep from wearing holes in it.
