Pulling the head (How to???)
#1
Well I am pulling the head and piston on my bike this weekend. I talked with RWR and they said that if you grind down a spot on the frame you don't have to pull the motor. What I need are the basic steps to complete this job.It does not look to hard ,I just don't want to mess anything up. Thanks!!!!!

just pull the exhaust and intake manifold then pull the front engine mounts and the one large one that goes thru the back of the engine and let it tilt forward. there is enough room to slide it out then.

Send me an e-mail and I can send you some pictures (mjbeaty@worldnet.att.net)
I'll give you my mobile number too in case you have any questions.
There a three ways to get the head on/off:
1. Remove the front engine mounts and tilt the engine (I haven't done it this way.)
2. Grind away a little of the frame (grinding a little of the head helps too.)
3. Use a bar pry it on (this is what we have usually done. As long as you are careful the bolts will flex enough to allow you to get the head down past the cross-member.
Did you get heavy duty stud bolts too?

Hey scott grind the frame dude. You only need to grind just a very small amount of the weld right where the head touches the weld when you try to lift the head. You don't even grind all the way through the weld. Thats how small the amount you grind is. The motor mount bolts are a b-uatch. I did it the mount bolt way the first time and hated every hour of it.
I did pull the cams on mine when I did it. Not a big deal to remove them. Thats the easiest part anyway. Make sure you use the allen bolt to hold it at TDC and ya can't go wrong any way. Also get some very this wire and wrap it to the timming chain. That way you can let the cain fall down and still be able to bring it back up again when needed. Hummm what else....Oh yea, clean the surfaces with fine grit sand paper before re-installing the gaskets. Also get a new set of nuts for the head. 4 of them. Put them on dry also. You got my number if ya need any more info. Have fun

Let me or Larry know and we'll hook up at Dumont. RaptorRyan should have his quad back in March somtime and we can all get together. This time though lets set a spot to meet there so we don't miss each other this time. It was a packed madhouse at Dumont for pres weekend.
For those that weren't there check this out.
