my first wreck
#1
Well I knew it had to happen sooner or later and it did yesterday. I went over a little ridge thinking I was going over at my normal spot. Well it wasn't the normal spot! I hit some big ruts that totally took me by surprise and the quad bucked very hard. I hit my stomach REALLY hard on the handlebars when the quad turned sideways and rolled on it's side. I hit the ground and left a dent in the gravel where my helmet landed. (thank goodness for helmets!!) This happened at about 40 mph I would guess and it hurt a lot. I got the air knocked out of me and I think my insides are bruised but other than that I'm fine. Nothing on the quad was hurt except when the brake lever dug into the ground it moved down some. I'll just have to unbolt it and move it back up. Funny thing is, I had been hitting a huge jump all day and I wreck doing some normal riding! Just wanted to share my first wreck story and remind everyone to wear a helmet - wrecks don't just happen when you're doing crazy stuff

Sorry to hear about the accident, glad you're ok.
I would say most wrecks don't happen when your doing crazy stuph because that is when you are at your most alert. You're aware you're taking more of a risk so your senses are hightened. It's when you're doing the mundane that you get inattentive and more accidents can occur.

it does seem when you are just putting along some odd thing will happen, last year on a poker run i go to get a drink out of my camel back next thing i know i'm flying off my quad, big rock grapped the front tire and pulled it side ways. well any wreck you can say just bruised and the quad is fine is a good one

I had my first wreck yesterday too. Was on a banked turn and hit a rock with my right front & it through my ozark on it's left side. I left the atv and landed on my left side I'm ok but put some scraps on my left front fender. There are only two kind of riders, those who have crashed and those who will crash!

I feel for you Razorcat. You always get hurt the worst when your guard is down. In fact I made a total rookie mistake two weeks ago riding my XR650R.
I was just warming up abit for a long trail ride in the hills near beaumont CA. I was goofing around a bit taking a couple of hops of a SMALL jump in the middle of one of the trails. Well I goosed the throttle a bit on take-off to get a little better launch, lost traction in the rear end and ended up launching at about 45 degrees sideways and leaning about 30 degrees to the left. While this wouldn't have been that big of a deal on a larger jump where I would have simply rode it out and corrected it as best as I could before landing, it was a small jump maybe got 2' of air and only flew 7 or 8 feet. This is where I made the stupid mistake of taking my left foot off the peg in anticipation of trying to stay upright after a hairy landing. I got my foot down a second too soon and pile-drived my heel into the ground on landing. I ended up breaking my big toe, spraining my ankle, and tweaked my knee pretty good. I couldn't walk for about 12 hours after that.
Talk about embarrasing.. here I was traveling less than 20mph, went over a very small jump and that was it for the day. I was actually more pissed that I missed the ride than anything else, they ended up riding about 40 miles of trails that day.
oh well... live and learn...
Like I always say, if you don't ever wreck, your aren't pushing yourself hard enough. It only sucks when you wreck when you aren't pushing yourself.
