Default 703 Pami

I have decide to get a 703 kit from pami racing for racing cross country. THe quickest turn around time seem to be shipping my motor to Germany. I race XC and need the dependable horsepower. Have anyone else used them to build a motor. I knoww sam coe offers some reasonable kits but I want a motor that is built by a pro so I can compete all summer with very little dowm time. Will the 703 pami motor give me the performance I'm looking for.

Gary at Tvi probably have the talent to a motor but I really don't a true relationship with him and he is to expensive. pami wants 2700 to build my motor plus shipping. Shipping is another 800.00 to germany. the total is 3600.00. If I could find someone that build motors and coulfd give me a decent deal.

Wow, shipping is a killer. I hate to see all that money spent on shipping.

On a 703 isn't the only work on the crank (from the cases)? All the other work is top end work which should be much less to ship to Germany.

It may be less expensive to just buy a new 703 crank from him and have your engine assembled locally. I know a guy locally (Sacramento, CA area) that can do the assembly of the parts but, would be great for you to find a local guy. You may want to check with your local BMW shop since they are familiar with the 650 engine too. I think my local guy would charge about $300 for tear-down and re-assembly. I think anything under $500 would be fair.

Also, you may want to get your gears undercut since you are in there and upgrade to the newer (harder) shifting forks.

i had a crank and piston and rod alot of stuff shipped from gottfried on red lable next day air and it was only 198.00 so 700 is way high i think 250.00-300.00 roundtrip on ground would be close.

Make sure you tell them what direction to install the piston, they seam to have trouble with that[I have pics of the piston]. I will say this, Steve is one heck of a SALESMAN.

If you want the 703 done properly, the way it's built to last, send it to Gottfried. Others may do it cheaper, but corners are cut to save money. When a shop in the northwest [mentioned in this thread] had me put a motor together for them, but wanted to install the head themselves, I thought it would be easy for them. To my surprize, they called me after the second attempt and failure, so I could explain to them what they were doing wrong. That's not the sort of experiance that I trust.

Hey Don, you mind if I have my engine builder give you a call if he runs into any problems doing a piston, cam, valve spring, port job on my DS?
