Make sure you tell them what direction to install the piston, they seam to have trouble with that[I have pics of the piston]. I will say this, Steve is one heck of a SALESMAN.
HAHA Like you never made any mistakes!!!

Dam Guys
I decided that when I add mods it was going to be a serious combo because you spend just as much money picking and choosing parts. I just want a builder who will build me a motor that is reliable. Thank you guys for your imput because I'm fairly new to the DS. I normally build some serious shees but it got old and could not do well on trails.

When a shop in the northwest [mentioned in this thread] had me put a motor together for them, but wanted to install the head themselves, I thought it would be easy for them. To my surprize, they called me after the second attempt and failure, so I could explain to them what they were doing wrong. That's not the sort of experiance that I trust.
Don:

If you are refering to the Bomb dealer in Sac, I know there are two sides to every story and I don't know (or care) to get in the middle so, let me say the dealer would charge well over $500 for that work (not a good deal to me.) I think this dealer does a great job at minor work but, full engine mods I would go elsewhere.

I would send my engine to a local garage mechanic that has assembled a number of 760's and one or two 830's. I like all Gottfried's parts I would just get the parts and have them assembled locally (the same way you were doing it.)

I agree with what you are saying about not just going to some shop that has no expereience. There are a few guys that have gone with kits from bigger name builder and they have had issues. Go with the one with the most expereince. But, I think the assembly can be done in the states.

Steve told me he had trouble on the first one he did but he has built 5 or 6 760's since i have talked to these guys and one is his , I rode that one every since i went to sand tech and they left all kinds of screws loose and pinched the air hose for the gas tank I research very deeply about what a shop can and cannot do I just don't trust people anymore. Like Steve said what are you the FBI. I just like to make sure about what one claims, But you are right there are a lot of good shops out there i would just ask for poeple that they did work for i know it seems like a pain but in the long run it is worth it.

Since I have a 703 and have had work done by Knutz, Abbott and John at Marine products, my preference would be Knutz (no longer available), John and then Steve.

Just my 2 cents.

By the way you will love the 703 just DO NOT get the race cams. You will need the bottom end for XC racing and you will lose it with the race cams!

DuneMe,
Actually, I was not refering to the dealer in Sacramento, but a different shop that is often talked about in this forum.

Rednvegas,
Ask Steve what bore and stroke are used for a 760. If he has done 5 or 6 of them, he would know this fact. I had actually thought about starting in business with him, but when he told me that he planned on telling people that a stock size motor was actually a 703, I knew I couldn't go along with that. I will bet him that he has never done a 760 since that first one. I have torn down more than one motor that was built at Quad Central II[mostly Banshees], that turned out to not be the displacement that the owner asked it to be built to.

I'm not here to bash. Lord knows that I have earned my share of bashing. I don't argue those that speak the truth about the people I screwed over. I do want to let people know when they may be headed into intentional deception though.

What improvements are made to the crank in these kits?

I never built a stroker banshee and have did okay on the trails. The bike can be made to handle okay but the cost is fairly cheap to build but yu spend the rest on fuel and moutol oil.
