Default 04 DS650's... lighter, smaller, faster!?!?!?!?

the new (4/9/03) homepage for ATV Connection magazine has a story on this
they say the new DS's are 20lbs. lighter.... so I went to the BOMB website, they say the 04 DS is 470lbs. and the BAJA is 482lbs.
I thought that's about what they were before? am I wrong?

also ATV Connection says the new DS's are shorter, and narrower; but the BOMB website says they are 77 inches long and 48.5 inches wide; which is what I thought they were before? am I wrong again?

does anyone have specs from the previous years to compare???

I think when they talk about them being lighter, narrower and shorter they are talking about the DS650 X, the accesorised one.

I believe the baja was like 502 pounds dry weight. I am going from memory of when I bought mine.

when i bought my DS new early '01, all the magazines and Bombs site and the dealer's literature said it weighed 460lbs. I still have the info - double checked, it still says 460. Go figure - not even the manufacturer knows what the hell it weighs. I've got an article that shows the WET weight to be 505! that's with battery, full tank of gas, 4 quarts of oil, 2 quarts of antifreeze!

All the '04's are definitely 20lbs. lighter than the original though - including the X, which is cosmetics. The weight is shaved due to aluminum swingarm mostly, along with a lighter headlight assy, and maybe a couple other odds and ends.
Its only 1/2" shorter - they had to shift the weight bias after losing all that weight in the back, makes for better wheelies and jumping for sure. Same width as '03 I think.

The x package is not only cosmetic. It includes nerf bars, high pressure monotube gas front shocks, aluminum skid plates for the A-arms and engine, and the graphics, color and seat design. Thanks to atvconnection magazine for this info, its on the homepage. The new specs arent up on the website yet, thats why the specs are the same as the old models.

I don't know, I like it big, fat and fast. everyone talks about who's the fastest, we all know there is always someone faster. you can ride a bomb all day long and still walk, and still shoot the dunes like a rocket!!!! If they want me to buy the 04 baja, they going to have to show me the $$$$$.

In love with my baja,

02 bomb, baja
big gun pipe and header
V10 CDI box
RW stage1 kit
