Starting Problem
#1
Alright I put my stock CDI back on and I have checked for spark and that is good and I have fuel running through the bowl, I have tried putting alil bit of gas in the cylinder, spraying gas in the carb while turning it over and every other thing can think of to get it started and to no avail. Suddenly after the winter when I tried to start it, it would not start with the starter I had to bump-start it and then it would start fine on its own while it was still warm. What could be the problem? Also since this is my first time in the DS Carb I don't know what to expect, but I pulled off the black tube from the back of the carb to the filter and the black slide does not move with either the throttle or the choke and I thought this isn't right but I'm not sure whether it is or not and I have tried to start with choke, no choke, gas, no gas and nothing will work

the slide will not open if the bike doesn't run, it is pulled open by vacuum when the throttle opens the butterfly in front of it. the vacuum travels up two holes up the center of the slide to the diaphram in the top, under that gold cap.
the choke is not a traditional choke either - it is simply a valve that opens an "enricher" port for more fuel flow around the closed slide and jetting circuits.
why back to the stock CDI? just curious.
anyway, playing with the throttle will not help the bike start, because the throttle does not open the slide. it should start without touching the throttle. its either spark or fuel, maybe the spark isn't strong enough, maybe the plugs are fouled??...just thoughts...good luck

I had the same prblem with my bike every once in awhile it acted like the starter wasn't catching the wiring that comes out of the battery to the CDI box sometimes that connection isn't tight. This last weekend we went to St ANthony's we unloaded it and my husband thought the battery was dead but the lights worked the wire just comes loose every once in awhile get pliers and pinch it tight.

You need a valve job. This has been posted many times. The problem is untill it happens to you we dont pay attention. Had this problem for a year until someone else told me to have it checked, perfect starting ever since. It always started instantly with a bump start. Good luck.
