Default TM 45 Sticking In WOT or AT IDLE!!!!!

Just got back from Dumont, and BIG NASTY just wasn't working for me. After a run or two up comp the problems started. The throttle started to stick at the pegged position and then started sticking at the idle position. I thought that it was the cable some how coming out of the groves but that was quickly dismissed at I would shut the thing down immediately hold the throttle in place and right before I would get off the bike, you'd hear the slide drop and everything was fine. When it would get stuck in idle, I shut it down just as I did before and it would miraculously jog itself loose. What in the HE-DOUBLE TOOTH PICKS could be wrong. I can't tell you how many times I took the seat off and found nothing. Everything looked and felt great!

Any body have this problem before.

My first couple of runs were great with the new carb and extreme haulers. I also went with the 14 tooth front, so I'm not sure what helped and how much it helped compared to the last time at Dumont. I will tell you that I got my A$$ spanked by a Raptor. Even though my throttle stuck just after the start up the hill, I couldn't real him back if my life depended on it. He must have taken my bike by about 7 or 8 lengths. Don't know what he had, but it wasn't loud and it flat out moved. He was running neck and neck with a modded SHEE. Who knows..... Also, the guys wife had a Raptor with flames on it, and we were fender to fender before my carb screwed me. Man, i got to get some NOS!

CARB thing HELP!!!!!!!!! Can only think that the slide is sticking or getting catty-wompass for some reason. I will tear it apart tomorrow morning to see if that shows any signs.

Check to see if your seat is flexing and hitting the linkage,I have seen this happen alot.
Some guy's notch the seat plastic,to clear the linkage.
Or just sit back farther....

I sure can't think of anything internal to cause it - the slide is designed and constructed with a lot of thought to prevent it. never know though, can't hurt to look.
when it sticks at idle, are you able to push the thumb throttle, or is it stuck?

Jeff and Hightower, thanks for your help.... SOMAMABITCH. Jeff, I think that you're right on the money. REMEMBER in my post when I said that I would hold it where it was stuck after I would kill it. I could NEVER get off the bike and then check. It as soon as I unweighted the bike the darn thing would un-stick. How stupid I must of looked at the top of Comp with the seat off, getting off REAL slow as not to jiggle anything. WHAT A MORON I AM

I think that you hit it on the head JEFF.

Hightower, you and I were thinking the same thing..... HOW COULD THIS POSSIBLY BE??????? PRETTY SIMPLE DESIGN????????????????? Hightower, the thing was stuck, I mean real stuck! Couldn't budge the thumb throttle. I am going to go look at the seat right now. I would bet (and I'm from Vegas - born and raised), that there is a scuff of somekind! I'll let you guys know.

Jeff, obviously the problem here is that I'm too much of a lard-A$$ and compressing the seat to far. What exactly do people notch?

Hey Mike just take a Dremmel and cut off the piece of the linkage where the throttle cable wheel is. There is excess material there that catches on your seat and will hold your throttle wide open on you when you sit forward getting ready to launch for you holeshot. Just ask Majorecho about that one! He jumped on mine at Sand Mtn. and went to take off and the throttle stuck wide open with no rev limiter! OUCH!! I saw the evidence of that one when I changed my piston.

I've never had that happen, but I'm gonna be notchin' my seat so it never does! Glad I read this thread, thanks guys

Also, if you run a carb mount K&N, your seat will trash it over time. put a piece of rubber hose slit down the side on the frame metal below the filter zip tied to the existing holes - my filter sits about 1/4" above this metal, but taps it in rough stuff and jumping.
Cut the seat plastic away with a dremel the shape of the filter only a little bigger. then when you come off a jump and hit the seat you won't smash the filter - it will only get hit with foam instead. it doesn't hurt the integrity of the seat pan.

Jeff fixes another problem.

Also if you take your slide out, you will notice their is a rubber gasket inside the slide that makes a seal on the carb. I have had this seal get dry and make for a sticky throttle. Take some oil and drop it down along the sides of the slide, then work the hech out of it(up&down), and you will notice your slide will work much easier.

Bigger.

I was thinking the same thing as Jeff, I know that he was a big boy and thought to myself as I was reading I bet the seat was hitting. Looks like I'm to late.

Good to see you back Jeff. How was HI?

That ended up being the culprit. I inspected the seat and found a little notch that had been worn in by the throttle horn. It's about 1/8 wide and about an inch long. FUNNY......I must of looked like a moron!

Anywho, what about that raptor that raced me. What could he of had???? Well I guess I'll never know. Damn he was fast. Where was Samcoed when I needed him????

maybe I'll see that guy again sometime. HOPE NOT!

Thanks again Jeff!
