Default ds650/ds650 baja question

Hey guys im new here, i love the DS650 baja and the regular DS650, ever since i saw one in the dirtwheels mag when it was about to come out i fell in love with that thing and read about it saying it had the most horsepower of all quads and i loved the design of it, looked really cool and have wanted one ever since, i might have one pretty soon, but i have some questions for the DS people.

1. Does the DS650 baja have a wider stance then the DS650? Everytime i see a picture the front a-arms look wider, I thought I read in a dirtwheels mag that they put a +1 or +2 inch wider a-arm on the front top or bottom. Cant remember that part. Someone correct me if im wrong. I called me dealer about one and asked him the differences between the two and he just said the Baja had extra aluminum and that didnt sound right. But I do know the Baja does have a tach though.

2. Also I was wondering, where do yall get that black pastic? I love the way the black plastics look.

3. As for the motor between the DS650 and DS Baja, didnt they put a different pipe on the DS Baja? I know about the cdi box on the Baja reving 200 rpm's higher, can anyone else point out some other motor mods done to the DS Baja thats different from the DS650?

4. Is there somewhere on the internet or another DS site i can download some DS videos? I already have the Scooby video of his DS making 119 horsepower on alky.

Well hopefully this is to much questions for someone to answer and I hope they make sense in some way or another.
thanks for the help

Welcome to the forums.

About your questions:
1. I don't think the baja is any wider.

2. Get black plastics from a dealer. I know TVI stocks them, but any dealer should be able to order some for you. If you're lucky, you can run across plastics on ebay, but they're usually the yellow ones.

3. The pipe on the baja just has an extra piece on the outside. I'm pretty sure they're the same internally.

4. (I'm not the right person to answer this one.)

The Dirtwheels mag with with the DS jumping on the cover is the first issue I ever bought. I think that was Dec. '99.

The motor and a-arms are the same. The 200 rpm difference really isn't that noticeable. If you go to the Bombardier web-site it will list the differences. The hand-guards, the reinforced rims, different plastic, shock wears, baja lights with guards, muffler guard, and extended foot pegs are what makes the difference. If you like the black plastic, look at the '04 Baja X.

Welcome to the forums.

1. Up til 03' the regular DS and the DS Baja are the same dimensions. In 04 all the DS's are going to be changed, for sure i know the swingarm is gonna be 1/2" shorter. I dont know about the A-Arm widths.
Bomb's website basically explains the difference between the baja and the regular DS. The baja just has added accessories, the Baja X has more accessories and diff. graphics then the Baja.

2. Bigben explained that

3. As for the CDI's i know that a couple of the years they were different. My 03' baja right now is set at 7900. I think the earlier models were 7500 or 7700 cant remember.

4. I got some videos of the drag racing but not sure where i got them. Use search feature on the forums and youll be able to find some.

Apparently you can't have links to certian websites from this forum. Whatever... I tried to create a link to the On Dunes Performance website to highlight something for everyone. Apparently the word On Dunes is forbidden. The two words together in a weblink.

On Dunes Performance has a new Big Gun CDI available shortly for the DS650 models. Here's what the first line in the Bombardier forum says:

The Big Gun CDI for the DS will be available shortly. The power curve is supposed to be similar to the Team-Pami CDI, but the unit has a rev limit of 9250 RPM and has a suggested retail of $200.

If you're interested go to their website and then fourms.

not actually 100% sure but i want to say that the baja arms are 1 inch wider but the rim has 1 inch more negative offset. Has anyone else heard anything like this. Maybe i got wrong information but thats what i heard. But i know for sure that the arms are a different style. My 03 baja definately has different arms than my 01 ds had.

Default ds650/ds650 baja question

Thanks for all the replys guys, but I think when i decide to buy a DS ill go with the standard version instead of the baja, i dont wanna have a hackjob on the wiring harness if i install a cdi box. But I will order a cdi box when I get one to put on the standard DS so ill have a professional look instead of a hack job.

Eaglecollector, for some reason when i click on a file to view it it comes up all in letters, boxes and numbers, ive seen that before on other webpages, did you put them on there as text files instead of wma files?

I appreciated all the comments guys, keep them coming. One last question. How much will a complete set of black fenders cost me?

thanks

Bajaboy, yah you can easily tell the difference between the a-arms on an 03' or O2' and a 00' or 01' since they changed them. But i have never heard anything about different a-arm widths, but ya never know. The wheel offset on the bajas are 1/4" narrower on each side (got this from ds650 site (sorry forbidden so i couldnt name it). Here are the specs from the 03' brochure i got ... (max width) Regular DS - 49.5" , Baja - 48.5" , but this must be measured at the rear?? if so it probably doesnt go along with what were talking about .. lol

All i have is the stock rev limiter but im pretty sure that if you buy an aftermarket rev limiter all you have to do is unplug the old one and plug in the new one. So you dont have to mess around with any wires.

Im not sure how much the rear black plastic is but for the front (the part around the headlight) is around 120 from my dealer.
