Checked out the BAJA 250 today

I was looking around this weekend at new places to ride here in California and stumbled on this video of a test ride of a Roketa RTU-250. This quad looks very similar to the ones you guys are riding. They look like they can take a pretty good beating. Almost makes me want to purchase one. Anyways just thought I would share the video in case others are looking into purchasing one and have always wondered how they would perform. As far as how they will last is another thing and I guess only time will tell. Here is the link to the video in case anyone wants to see. Adult 250cc Wish you guys lots of luck with your new quads.
Happy riding.

I bought a Baja 250. It wasnt quite as spiffed up and it cost less. The oil changing was a hassle so if ayone is too buy one, I recomend access to a very powerful drill. It is a good low cost quad. I do recomend buying it.

XxBamBam2xX,
I too was impressed with the quad's performance.
I am looking forward to a trip to Calico Ghost Town OHV area too. Looks like a great place to ride and spend some time exploring.

hey smb05 where is that at the video and where is the place your going for your trip. This has been buggin me for a while how is the suspension on the off brnads or has any one actually really tested it (like jumps or anything) i just have been wondering because you never really know about the off brands

XxBamBam2xX,
The place is called Calico. It's a Ghost town with OHV riding areas around it. Looks like there are a lot of areas to explore. We were going to make a day trip last Sunday, but the kids did not want to sit in the Truck for 6 hours round trip. When we go, it will be for a couple of days. We may also have to schedule the trip later in the year, the temps are a little high right now.
Here is a link to Calico Calico Ghost Town & OHV Area
As far as an off brand holding up to that kind of riding, only time will tell. When owners post what they have put their quads through, and if their quads are holding up is the only way to tell. I have a 150 Off Brand ATV and it has held up pretty good so far. I have had a few issues but nothing that couldn't be fixed or modified. Here is a link to a video of my 150 and some mild torture my son did to the quad. Mild Torture Test 150cc

XxBamBam2xX,
The stock exhaust on my 150 was very quiet. The reason why I put the Big Gun exhaust on the quad, is I needed a legal spark arrester when we ride on USFS land and all of the Pay OHV areas where we ride. The rangers check our bikes and quads every time we enter the parks.
Sorry to those in the thread, I did not mean to deviate from the Baja 250 topic.
Have a good one.

Well I was already to buy my second Baja 250 atv at Canadian Tire (west end store)... The person closing the deal mentions that Canadian Tire is no longer a service center and that if I have any problems I don't deal with them but rather one of 3 other local repair shops. She then shows me a list of 3 local motor cycle parts and serivce centers. The first one on the list was Edmonton Motorcycle and salvage. Well I've dealt with them before and the thought of them servicing or providing any warranty support for the ATV is down right frightening. The main reason I bought this ATV is that Canadian Tire is a big company and I thought they would stand behind their product. When I bought my ATV I was told by the store manager that they were the authorized service center for the ATV's and that they had a certified mechanic on staff. I still need to check with the manager at the store I bought my first ATV from to see if this position for service and warranty has changed like the people at the west end store stated. Anyhow I didn't buy the second atv.
UPDATE: I talked to the manager at the south side Canadian Tire. He informed me that the south side store is a certified repair depot and that I can get parts or service for the atv directly from them. This is great news. I'll be buying the second quad from this store... The manager their provides really exellent service.
The baja 250's coming in are quite a bit different then the one I bought in May.
Changes include:
- Two electric fans to cool the cylinder head
- New LCD speedometer. (it doesn't show what gear you are in)
- New thumb throttle (completely new mechanism)
- New manual remote choke on left grip. Also the stop/run kill switch is a lot like turn signal indicator on a motorcycle.
- New license plate mount and metal rings on rubber straps that hold up tail light cover
- New 12V accessory plug on top left fron fender
- redesigned foot mounts including supports at front bottom to prevent the fender from being pushed.
- New tires. More square in shape with lower nubs
- Seat is black plastic instead of white underneath
- new exhaust shield on right side

i just did the first service on the 250's and everything was good. the valve clearance was dead on, i changed the oil and cleaned the filter(it had alot of metal flakes on it), i changed the rear gear oil and i cleaned and re gaped the spark plug.
Both plugs were black ( dont know why as they are never low on oil and it always stays at same level).
checking valve clearance was not that hard, i did not have to take gas tank off (just the black side panels).
i emailed baja and they sent me a service manual, it was a photocopy of original but it did the trick.
stay happy with these machines.
