OK, it`s not just me, then. I wonder if going to Yamaha Beartracker parts would help resolve that problem. From what I can tell, they're just copies anyway.

Your real stopping power comes from the front disc brakes. Be sure you wipe the discs clean of the shipping oil. Failure to do so will leave you with soft brakes. I also had to bleed air out of my brakes. The brakes on my quad both front and back were pretty much non-existant when I first got it.

I have just got back from 2 weeks hunting with my new Wilderness 250cc. I found that using the left hand brake to operate the back brake I could not pull hard enough to lock up the back brakes. If I use the right foot brake the back axle could lock up. I think there is not enough machanical advantage with the hand brake. This works ok for me, if I am going down a hill and just want to slow down a bit I use the hand brake and if I need to stop then I use the right hand brake and right foot brake. I was going about 35k and used full right hand and foot brake and was able to do a 4 wheel lock up.

Just got back from 2 weeks Moose hunting.
Was in Canada North.
Bike handled Great!.
Traveled many miles on old logging roads. No problems at all!
Honda & Artic bikes were impressed by this bike.
Only issue was parking brake latch rattled off somewhere in bush.

My wife and i took one last run today on our wilderness 250's before the winter and they worked good.
they where sitting for about 2 months and the temp today was about 6 degress (burrrr...).
It took some cranking but they fired up and in about 10 minutes they fully warmed up.
I drained the gas and unhooked the battery after our run and they will sit till april .
Thinking about a winch on them, has any body done this yet ?
Sometimes mine is hard to put in reverse, i have to rock the machine back and forth and rev the engine a bit before it engages, does anybody else have this minor annonance?
later

Yeah, I have a winch on mine. My father-in-law installed it for me before I got a chance to even see the bike! He said it was a little difficult, because you have to take off the front rack to get enough room to work. I left the plastic mud guard/`skid plate`on and used a Dremel tool to trim it out so it looks like factory original setup.

put on a Superwinch my wife bought me.
Had 2 pieces of plate bend at machine shop.
Attached winch to plate and installed.
Cut mud guard around winch to look like factory.
did not have to remove anything!
Slipped right in.

Garber, I got my Baja 250u on black friday (23rd Nov) from Pepboys for 1999.00 and so far it runs great. Sometimes I have to give it a gentle rock for it to go all the way into reverse, but I would say it is one out of ten times. I have a friend with a Yamaha bear that does it just about as often.

Hey guys just bought my new baja 250 I had to fool with the tie rods to get the thing to drive straight, I managed this but then was wondering if thiers a toe in or out measurement? I`ve look in the manual nothing there about it, so maybe someone here can help me with these specs if any? So question is, is thier a toe? If so is it in or out? if so whats the toe adjustment measurement?

Also my manual says to use (SAE 80 API "G-4 Hypoid gear oil) I can't find this gear oil anywhere in town, not even in the same canadian tire store where I purchased the quad. I was wondering if thier is a substitute gear oil I can use as a some what equivalent which won't harm the quad?

Thanks In Advance.

the rear gear oil i used was bought from canadian tire. i used a regular gear oil 80w90 and it works fine.
as far as toe in here is how the manual says to do it.
place atv on flat ground
handlebars stright ahead
lift front of atv of ground a few inches so there is no wieght on tires
measure the distance at the top of the two front tires, the measurment must be taken from the center of each tire.
spin the tires 180 degress, now do the same measurement but it will be on the bottom of the tires.
there should be a diffrence of 0 to 5 mm.
hope this helps
