BMS vs Jetmoto 90cc-110cc
#1
I am looking into buying an atv for my son. He is 7 and pretty strong/big for his age. I was looking at the 110cc models from jetmoto because the price is right and they look to be a wide, stable quad and the design seems sound from the pics I have seen. The problem I have is that we live in MN and they have rules about age and atv engine size. You cannot legally ride anything larger than a 90cc quad on state land (or the like) until you turn 16. So that kind of rules out the 110. I see that BMS makes a 90cc machine that is very similar in design and actually looks like it has a few better features/components than the jetmoto: box type swingarm, new stronger reverse gear design, etc. otherwise it looks almost identical.
My question is this... I'm looking to spend around 1,000. Does jetmoto or any other off brand manufacturer of reputable character make a similar 90cc quad without having to move to the smaller chincier looking chassis' and suspension designs I see most 50-90cc quads have? I have heard good things about raceway and would like to order from a reputable company like yours, but I don't see anything I like aside from the redcat mpx 110 and the jetmoto 110... I need a 90cc quad...
I have seen and heard that the unison 90 desert cat is pretty nice, but it's 1,600 bucks. I don't really want to spend that much.
Basically the only mfg. I have seen with anything that looks remotely decent in the 90cc size is BMS...
I assume based on the similarities between models and manufacturers (BMS/Jetmoto) that these quads are reletively close in design and function and that they will probably hold up equally well. Am I correct? I am referring to the 90cc/110cc models only (not talking about across the board, just these two sizes). (I am pretty mechanically inclined and can set-up, fix, and maintain most vehicle related things.)
Any help (other than buy a honda, suzuki, yamaha etc.) will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Not picking on you, just never acutally been cited a law where it is "illegal".
Could you imagine a 5'-8", 15 y.o. kid on a 90CC Kasea?

Yankee Tim,
I'm glad you pointed that out... I took a closer look at the regulations on the MN DNR website and I must have read them wrong. The 90cc regulation is mentioned up to the 10-11 year old group, but isn't mentioned in the later years. I must have assumed that it just carried through the rest of the categories.
You have a good point about the 5'8" kid on a 90cc, but honestly... lawmakers aren't always practical or logical when they write legislation on this stuff...
Anyway... I am still looking for a 90cc quad because he will not be able to ride the 110 legally on state land with me until he is 12 years old. He will have to stay on private property. This info is pulled directly from the MN DNR web site. (was just there)...
Does anyone have any ideas? Or does anyone know anything about BMS and their history, reputation? They look like nice little rigs... does anyone have any comments?
I have seen many kits to increase the size of the honda clone motors. ex: from 50-70cc, from 70-88cc, from 90-107cc etc. Is it possible to detune the jetmoto with one of these kits to a 90cc for the years 10-11 so we can take it out on trails?
Please help.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Wes; just typed a reply on the other thread about the Jetmoto 110 and 125. Personally I don't see why you couldn't just take the 110 emblem off the JM110 and stick a 90cc one on there... there's nothing else on the bike to tell you what size motor is in it.... My son is younger, smaller than yours, and he handles the 110 OK - not good enough I let him go off and ride it without supervision, but he does OK on it... I got this one for him because of the same factors you mentioned - good quality build, wide and stable, good suspension, and sealed crankcase - I read the CVT trannys have problems if water/debris gets inside on these "lower price" builds. The reverse is actually a pretty good feature to have as well.
